League One promotion and relegation battles heat up on Tuesday night…
Tuesday night’s League One programme could have a huge impact at both ends of the table, and here are William Hill News’ predictions for each game.
With just a handful of matchdays left, every mistake is magnified and every run of form feels season‑defining.
League One predictions – Tuesday 21st April:
Bradford 1-1 Plymouth
Doncaster 0-2 Lincoln
Rotherham 1-2 Luton
Stevenage 2-1 Barnsley
Stockport 2-0 Mansfield
Bradford v Plymouth – Tuesday, 7.45pm
Bradford – 11/8
Draw – 9/4
Plymouth – 9/5
Fourth plays seventh at Valley Parade in what looks the headline clash of the evening. Bradford have had a slight wobble but still boast one of the division’s best defensive records, while Plymouth’s recent surge – two wins in three – has dragged them right into the play‑off mix. With both sides averaging more than a goal‑a‑game and carrying attacking threats, this has the feel of a cagey but entertaining draw between two teams who can’t afford to lose.
Doncaster v Lincoln City – Tuesday, 7.45pm
Doncaster – 21/10
Draw – 23/10
Lincoln – 6/5
Top‑of‑the‑table Lincoln travel to a Doncaster side still hovering above the relegation zone and struggling for consistency. The Imps have been relentless in their promotion push, going unbeaten in their last six and boasting the league’s best goal difference thanks to a rock‑solid defence. Doncaster, though, have four wins in six which has helped them climb towards safety.
However, Lincoln’s form, coupled with their ability to manage tight games, makes them worthy favourites here. If they strike first, it is difficult to see Doncaster finding a way back.
Prediction: Doncaster 0-2 Lincoln City
Rotherham v Luton – Tuesday, 7.45pm
Rotherham – 18/5
Draw – 14/5
Luton – 4/6
Rotherham sit in the bottom four and are running out of time to save themselves, with a leaky defence and four defeats in six leaving them in real trouble. Luton, eighth but only three points off the play‑offs, know this is exactly the sort of game they have to win to keep their top‑six hopes alive. The Hatters have been solid rather than spectacular of late, but their extra quality in the final third and superior squad depth should tell over 90 minutes.
Rotherham’s need to attack at some stage could open space for Luton on the break, especially in the latter stages.
Prediction: Rotherham 1-2 Luton Town
Stevenage v Barnsley – Tuesday, 7.45pm
Stevenage – 3/4
Draw – 5/2
Barnsley – 7/2
Stevenage are sixth and right on the shoulder of the play-off places, but they need to avoid slipping up in their remaining games if they’re to cement an extended league campaign. Barnsley, in mid‑table with little to play for, have tailed off badly – just one win from their last six.
Barnsley retain enough quality to make this awkward, but Stevenage’s intensity and set‑piece threat should wear them down.
Prediction: Stevenage 2-1 Barnsley
Stockport v Mansfield – Tuesday, 7.45pm
Stockport – 8/13
Draw – 3/1
Mansfield – 19/5
Stockport have won three of their last six and have picked up points in each game, which has put them back on the heels of the top four. Mansfield, sitting just outside the top half, have become draw specialists within the last month struggle for a cutting edge against the better sides.
With a packed Edgeley Park behind them and promotion firmly in their sights, Stockport look well‑placed to keep the pressure on the automatic spots. Their attacking options and strong home record suggest a relatively comfortable evening if they can get the first goal.
Prediction: Stockport 2-0 Mansfield Town
