League 2 Predictions This Weekend – Saturday 20th September 2025

League 2 Football Preview

JUST the one EFL League Two club remain unbeaten approaching another busy Saturday of fixtures.

We have joint leaders and a strong chasing pack. So overall League Two betting activity is favouring these teams.

Here are the upcoming pairings I am anticipating most alongside considered score predictions to guide your football betting

Salford City v Swindon Town

  • Kick-off: 3pm
  • Rankings: 3rd versus 1st

Salford City Preview

The weekend’s stand out match involving two sides firmly ensconced in the automatic promotion region. Salford sit two points below pole position. They are presently on four games undefeated across all competitions winning the past three.

Swindon Town Preview

Last Saturday’s 3-1 home conquest over Harrogate Town took them top of the pile on goal difference. They boast five straight League and Cup victories.

Also divisional highest scorers on 17 goals. Don’t forget Swindon were drifting towards League Two relegation perils when boss Ian Holloway was appointed on 25th October 2024.

Score prediction: A point apiece 2-2.

Newport County v Gillingham

  • Kick-off: 3pm
  • Rankings: 22nd versus 2nd

Newport County Preview

Goal difference is keeping the Exiles above that dreaded relegation dotted line. Their solitary EFL win was on Saturday 9th August by a 2-1 scoreline away to Crawley Town. Beyond then seven League and Cup matches without success.

Club chairman Huw Jenkins said this week: “I understand supporters’ frustrations but the management and players are working tirelessly to get our season moving forward in a positive direction. So I am confident good results will follow.”

Gillingham Preview

Second on goals scored. The Gills stay unconquered in 17 EFL fixtures since Gareth Ainsworth took charge on 25th March. They possess three draws amidst four away League games in 2025/26.

Score prediction: Gareth’s Gills gyrate onwards 2-0.

Walsall v Tranmere Rovers

  • Kick-off: 3pm
  • Rankings: 4th versus 16th

Walsall Preview

Two points beneath the summit currently enjoying a five match unbeaten League and Cup run. Their defence was breached merely twice during this sequence.

Tranmere Rovers Preview

Three EFL matches bereft of victory at the moment. Tranmere boss Andy Crosby returned to the technical area against Newport County last Saturday after missing the previous game because his mother suffered a suspected heart attack.

Score prediction: Saddlers shine 3-1.

Barnet v Grimsby Town

  • Kick-off: 3pm
  • Rankings: 15th versus 5th

Barnet Preview

The National League champions are doing ok on their recommencement of EFL combat. However, all three League wins so far were registered away from home. Significantly, they’ve failed to triumph at The Hive in four attempts.

Personally, I can’t help feeling Barnet don’t exude the same aura as when Football League status was first attained back in 1991 under the high profile leadership of chairman Stan Flashman and manager Barry Fry.

Grimsby Town Preview

One point shy of those automatic promotion spots. A sole League defeat came 1-0 at home to Bristol Rovers on Saturday 30th August.

In addition, Grimsby have been making national headlines due to Carabao Cup giantkilling wins against Manchester United and Sheffield Wednesday respectively.

Score prediction: Mariners marvellous 4-2.

Bromley v Chesterfield

  • Kick-off: 3pm
  • Rankings: 7th versus 6th

Bromley Preview

An important match within the Play-Off zone. It is strange to see Bromley pushing for League Two promotion because I remember they were a humble Isthmian League team when I first saw them play in the 1970’s.

But now the upwardly mobile Ravens have only lost one EFL encounter throughout 2025/26. That was 1-0 at Oldham Athletic last Saturday.

Chesterfield Preview

Looking to improve on a four match winless run in all competitions. Yet two points short of the top three.

Score prediction: Hard fought 1-1.

Cheltenham Town v Oldham Athletic

  • Kick-off: 3pm
  • Rankings: 24th versus 14th

Cheltenham Town Preview

Rock bottom. Their single EFL maximum pointer arrived 1-0 at home to fellow strugglers Accrington Stanley on Saturday 6th September. To compound matters, Cheltenham’s director of football Gary Johnson resigned on Wednesday following 16 months in the role.

Oldham Athletic Preview

Two consecutive 1-0 League wins past Cambridge United (away) and Bromley (home) have lifted newly promoted Oldham into mid-table confines thereby overturning a disappointing start to the campaign.

Score prediction: 1-0 to Oldham again.
