Chesterfield can scrape past Grimsby at 17/4 in key League Two clash
Tuesday evening brings with it four fixtures from EFL League Two.
As we approach the final stretch of the season, there are six-pointers all over the place and so much still to play for. These midweek fixtures can be crucial to building momentum or putting an end to losing runs, which is what all eight sides in action on Tuesday will be hoping for.
League Two predictions – Tuesday 14th April:
- Chesterfield 2-0 Grimsby
- Barrow 2-1 Oldham
- Cheltenham 2-2 Gillingham
- Colchester 3-0 Accrington
Chesterfield v Grimsby – Tuesday, 7.45pm
- Chesterfield – 29/20
- Draw – 11/5
- Grimsby – 17/10
The headline clash of the evening sees Chesterfield host Grimsby. This is a huge game as far as both teams’ promotion chances are concerned, with the hosts sitting seventh, one point and one place ahead of their visitors, with Grimsby having a game in hand.
Grimsby’s positive recent away form has seen them keep six clean sheets in their last eight on the road, but the Tuesday’s venue hasn’t been a happy hunting ground for the Mariners, who have won one of their last four league visits to the Chesterfield FC Stadium.
The hosts need to bounce back from last week’s 0-3 loss to Oldham, and are expected to do so having not suffered back-to-back Tuesday losses since 2018.
Barrow v Oldham – Tuesday, 7.45pm
- Barrow – 12/5
- Draw – 21/10
- Oldham – 11/10
This fixture concerns the bottom end of the table with no promotion charges being ignited here. Barrow, however, are looking to spark a revival of their form as they seek to avoid relegation to the National League.
The hosts sit 23rd, three points from safety with a game in hand on those ahead, and they really need to make it count. It’s a different story for Gillingham, with the visitors languishing in mid-table with no hope of promotion or threat of relegation. The added motivation of a relegation scrap could make Barrow the value pick here.
Cheltenham v Gillingham – Tuesday, 7.45pm
- Cheltenham – 7/5
- Draw – 2/1
- Gillingham – 19/10
Cheltenham v Gillingham is one of the more uninspiring fixtures taking place on Tuesday evening. Not only has neither side got anything to play for, but the recent form of three draws from the last three editions of this matchup doesn’t offer much hope for a thriller.
That said, Cheltenham turned on the style away from home last time out against Walsall, putting four past their hosts. They’ll want to produce something similar in front of their home fans, given they haven’t won in front of them for three games.
Colchester v Accrington – Tuesday, 7.45pm
- Colchester – 7/5
- Draw – 2/1
- Accrington – 19/10
Colchester are one of the biggest stories in League Two at the moment, but not for their on-the-field exploits. They have recently been bought by Chelsea legend John Terry and he’s a man who knows how to win.
Accrington find themselves in 16th and have taken just one point from their last four away games. It’s hard to look past the home side here, who will be eager to impress their new owner.
