Monday evening sees Leeds United host Wolverhampton Wanderers at Elland Road in a fixture that both sides will already see as crucial, despite it still being so early in the season.
Wolves need a win to get their campaign off the ground, while Leeds would love to continue momentum they’ve created so far. Who will come out on top?
Wolves hoping to kick-start their season
The last time these two sides met was back in March 2018 where Wolves came out 3-0 winners in a season that saw them promoted back to the Premier League. Wolves go into this fixture as 2/1 underdogs having not had the start many thought they would have had.
We are still in the very early stages of the new campaign, but Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have made a somewhat indifferent start this time around. After defeating Sheffield United on the opening day, Wolves were surprisingly knocked out of the League Cup by Stoke, before two defeats in the league to Manchester City and perhaps more concerningly, a 4-0 away loss to West Ham, where they were never at the races.
Pedro Neto has been one of the standout players for Wolves this season and after firing home the winner in their 1-0 victory over Fulham last time out, the Portuguese international is priced at 27/10 to score anytime on Monday evening. They’ll also be hoping for more from Raul Jimenez, who despite scoring twice this season, hasn’t quite shown the form we’re used to from him. The Mexican is 9/2 to score first at Elland Road.
Leeds loving life back in the big-time
In contrast to Wolves, Leeds have made an excellent start to the new season – their first since being relegated in 2004. After going blow-for-blow against Liverpool on the opening day, Leeds have gone from strength-to-strength with wins against Fulham and Sheffield United. They were arguably at their most impressive, though, when they were more than deserving of a 1-1 draw with Manchester City last time out. That great performance would have given Marcelo Bielsa’s side even more belief they belong in the top-tier of English football and Leeds head into this fixture as favourites at 29/20.
Patrick Bamford has been the shock star for Leeds so far this season with the forward scoring three goals in his last four games, including a fantastic winning header against Sheffield United. Bamford is currently priced at 19/10 to score anytime on Monday evening.
