Live coverage of the Charity Shield
And welcome to William Hill\'s live coverage of this top-flight football season curtain raiser which sees Chelsea take on Manchester City in the Community Shield at Wembley. It\'s last season\'s FA Cup winners against Premier League champions Manchester City... but can anyone stop the Sky Blues this season? New Chelsea coach Maurizio Sarri will certainly think he he can.
PEP ON SARRI
Guardiola is a big fan of his counterpart Maurizio Sarri saying: \"I\'m happy a manager like Sarri is here. I will learn a lot and see him every weekend. We are going to improve because of his ideas. \"I\'ve seen three games and he gets it. The team already in a short time plays like he wants. He needs more time but his ideas are already there. \"It\'s going to be a good game. Chelsea will be a big rival, they always are. I think he will be perfect for English football. \"Sarri invited us in the summer, we went out in Italy and Sarri paid for the meal.\"
Chelsea XI: Caballero, Azpilicueta, Rüdiger, David Luiz, Alonso, Jorginho, Fàbregas, Barkley, Pedro, Hudson-Odoi, Morata. Subs: Bulka, Christensen, Zappacosta, Drinkwater, Moses, Willian, Abraham. Manchester City XI: Bravo, Walker, Stones, Laporte, Mendy, B Silva, Fernandinho, Foden, Mahrez, Sane, Aguero. Subs: Ederson, Kompany, Otamendi, Gomes, Gundogan, Jesus, Diaz.
STRONG TEAMS FOR BOTH SIDES
Both Chelsea and Manchester City have elected to play strong teams. The Premier League season is set to start next week after all - but it is surprising to see players such as Sergio Aguero and Fernandinho play considering they did not take part in preseason.
WHAT A JOURNEY...
Phil Foden and Callum Hudson-Odoi both start for Manchester City and Chelsea respectively today.
- Chelsea are looking to win the Community Shield for the first time since 2009, when they beat Manchester United 4-1 on penalties. They\'ve failed to win any of their last four appearances in the Community Shield. - Manchester City last lifted the Community Shield in 2012, defeating this year\'s opponents Chelsea 3-2 in a fixture that was played at Villa Park. - This will be the third meeting between Chelsea and Manchester City at Wembley, with City winning the most recent one in April 2013 (2-1 in the FA Cup semi-final). - Chelsea have lost each of their last two games against Manchester City - they haven\'t lost three in succession against them since September 2010.
OLD FRIENDS MEET AGAIN
Sergio Aguero and David Luiz famously don\'t see eye to eye...
JORGINHO IS NOT MARADONA
If Chelsea fans had extremely high expectations of their new signing Jorginho then Sarri is here to water them down. On the midfielder, Sarri said: \"First of all, Jorginho is not Maradona. He is a good player, a technical player, who is quick with his mind. He will be very useful for the team - especially in this first period.\"
PEP ON MENDY
Pep Guardiola on Benjamin Mendy: \"Last season, he only played several games in the beginning. It\'s good for him to start playing again and get confident and be involved in the way we play.\"
Both managers are in t-shirts. I\'m afraid this match is not a competitive fixture.
We\'re finally underway as Alvaro Morata rolls the ball.
Riayd Mahrez makes himself some space on the right-hand side and gets a shot away. Leroy Sane follows through but his shot goes just wide of the post. It\'s been all Manchester City so far.
Sergio Aguero opens the scoring for Manchester City!
SERGIO AGUERO GOAL
Youngster Phil Foden danced into the box and played in Sergio Aguero who took his goal under no pressure whatsoever. Chelsea will be extremely disappointed at the manner in which they conceded. That\'s Kun\'s 200th goal for Manchester, by the way.
CHELSEA LOOKING SLOPPY
This Chelsea defence is not exuding any confidence whatsoever. Aguero is also fancying his chances against former team-mate and compatriot Willy Cabellero with several pot-shots from afar. He presumably paid close attention to Caballero\'s performances at the World Cup...
The first drink break of the game is underway...it\'s nearly 30 degrees out there.
SARRI HAS A LOT TO THINK ABOUT
HALF-TIME: CHELSEA 0-1 MANCHESTER CITY
Sergio Aguero\'s 200th goal is the difference between the sides so far.
Chelsea 0-1 Manchester City
Pep Guardiola will be pleased with that first half performance having watched his side play with the same slick passing and movement that saw them romp the league last season. Chelsea on the other hand have been disappointing with Sarri not able to find a solution to City\'s press.
WE\'RE BACK UNDERWAY AT WEMBLEY1
ILKAY GUNDOGAN ON FOR LEROY SANE
BT Sport claim Leroy Sane picked up a knock in the first half.
Aguero is clean through, rounds Caballero but only finds the side-netting! Should\'ve scored.
PHIL FODEN IMPRESSING
What a pass it was from Phil Foden to set up Sergio Aguero. They don\'t call him the Stockport Iniesta for nothing...
Sergio Aguero gets his second and Manchester City lead 2-0!
GOAL - CHELSEA 0-2 MANCHESTER CITY
John Stones intercepts brilliantly and starts a counter-attack that results in Aguero knocking it home from an incisive Bernardo Silva pass. That was a fantastic counter-attacking play from City.
Gabriel Jesus is on for Riyad Mahrez who made a solid debut. William and Danny Drinkwater came on for Callum Hudson-Ohoi and Ross Barkley earlier.
ALVARO MORATA OFF
Tammy Abraham has come on for Alvaro Morata who hasn\'t looked sharp today. The new #29 has left the field unable to dedicate a goal to his two new-born twins.
PHIL FODEN REPLACED
Phil Foden is replaced by fellow teenage prodigy Brahim Diaz after a fantastic Wembley performance. He created the first goal and set up several more chances for Sergio Aguero. The young Englishman can be proud of his exploits today.
MAN OF THE MATCH - SERGIO AGUERO
Cheers amongst the City end as Sergip Aguero is named Man of the Match after his two goal exploits.
CHANCES FOR MANCHESTER CITY
Two big chances for Manchester City from Silva and Brahim Diaz but ex-keeper Caballero stands tall on both occasions,
FULL-TIME - CHELSEA 0-2 MANCHESTER CITY
RIO FERDINAND ON CITY
Manchester United legend has been waxing lyrical about Manchester City on BT Sport saying: \"Other teams are trying to buy superstars and fit them into the team. It\'s a totally different identity here.\"
\'A WORK IN PROGRESS\' - CHELSEA FANS
Manchester City have won the Community Shield for the first time since 2012, when they beat Chelsea 3-2 at Villa Park. Chelsea have now failed to win the Community Shield in any of their last five appearances in the competition (2010, 2012, 2015, 2017 and 2018). It’s the joint-longest run of appearances without winning or sharing the trophy in the competition’s history, along with Newcastle (1932, 1951, 1952, 1955 and 1996). This is the first time the reigning Premier League champion has won the Community Shield since Manchester United beat Wigan Athletic 2-0 in 2013. The last Community Shield winners to go on to win the Premier League title that season were Manchester United back in 2010/11.
PHIL FODEN READY FOR THE PREMIER LEAGUE
Pep Guardiola will have been impressed with youngster Phil Foden\'s performances today. He clearly thinks he\'s ready for more first-team action. But will the 18-year-old get it?
THAT\'S A WRAP
That\'s it for me. Congratulations to Manchester City on winning their third domestic trophy this year and see you all next week for the Premier League season opener!
