Man City vs Lyon predictions & odds

Manchester City will host Bruno Génésio’s Lyon this Wednesday, as part of the 8pm kick-offs. Whilst the Etihad may not be renowned for it’s electric atmospshere, the game will be watched by many, with all eyes on Pep Guardiola to see if his side can sweep aside the Les Gones on home turf.

The Blues are tipped 1/6 favourites as part of William Hill’s Man City vs Lyon odds, with Lyon betting at 7/1, and predictions for a draw trading at 12/1.

After a disappointing campaign last year when Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool sent them crashing out of the last 16 round, Man City will be looking to bounce back in this year’s competition with a win against Lyon, and betting tipsters suggest that the French side could be on the wrong end of a trouncing.

Lyon’s last five Champions League games have only produced five goals. They pale in comparison to City’s offence, who netted in scintillating fashion in last years’ competition. key players in front of goal were Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus, and since it’s predicted that they will make the starting line-up, we’ve tipped them to find their way onto the score sheet.

Betting tipsters have taken a particular interest in Sterling, who is expected to score with odds of 5/1. If his recent performances are anything to go by, this should be easy money.

Yet it would be foolish for Guardiola’s side to underestimate Lyon. Not only are they compact in defence, but possess attacking outlets in the form of Moussa Dembele. The Lyon striker scored three goals in his first four Champions League appearances, and predictions based on form suggest that he will be their most potent attacking threat.

Dembele has been tipped to score first at 11/1, becoming the last installation of our Man City vs Lyon predictions.

This will be the first competitive encounter between Manchester City and Lyon, which does not bode well for the French side as so far, no French club has ever won away against City in European competition. This first clash will allow us to shape predictions and opinions on how Lyon will face up against English sides in the future, but based on pre-match verdicts, it already looks foreboding for them.

Man City vs Lyon predictions: Betting tips

Predicted score: Man City to win 4-0 @ 9/1

With all the attacking talent they possess, it becomes second nature to assume that Man City will win big.

Guardiola has a myriad of attacking players who are all able to score goals and play in different positions. If it’s not Jesus, it’s Sterling. If not Bernardo Silva, then it’s Ilkay Gundogan, cementing our pre-match predictions that their attack will overwhelm Lyon come Wednesday.

We’ve tipped the Blues to triumph as handsome victors, with four goals on the score sheet, and with the likes of Sergio Aguero and David Silva sitting on Guardiola’s bench, our reasoning for making City our pick is truly justified.

Predicted scorer: Raheem Sterling to score first, with odds of 5/1

The Englishman has scored eight goals and delivered six assists in his last 15 Champions League starts for Manchester City.

Sterling’s eye for goal last season silenced critics; not only did he improve on his finishing but also his passing ability and work off the ball.  Added to this is his tremendous pace down the flank, which will cause the Lyon fullback who like to trek up the pitch, defensive problems.

He is tipped to become our pick to score first, betting at odds of 5/1.

Predicted to come from behind and win: Lyon to win, trading at 11/1

If a surprise is on the cards, Lyon will have to be ruthless in the way they go about it.

Attacking forwards Nabil Fekir, who sparked interest from Liverpool and ex-United player Memphis Depay will have to nullify City’s seamless style of play with a high press, and use of physicality in the box during freekicks and corners.

But to come from behind to win against the reigning Premier League champions is still a tough ask, and if they do go behind, they will need to graft to take anything away from the game.
