Bruno Guimarães: My dream is to win the Premier League title with Newcastle

| BY News Team

Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimarães has told us that his dream is to guide the Magpies to a Premier League title while he is at the club.

“My dream while I’m at Newcastle, because I know what it would mean for the fans, is to win the Premier League title here,” Guimarães said at the FWA North East Awards.

“That is my ambition with the club, plus to play in the Champions League. We need to dream big things because the club deserve it, the fans deserve a title. Fans are growing up having never seen Newcastle become champions and my goal while I’m here is to help the club win that title.”

Guimarães, who was presented with the North East FWA Player of the Year award for 2022, said that Newcastle’s recent League Cup final loss to Manchester United was a big blow, but that the club will be using that experience to drive them on to secure a top-four spot this season.

“The League Cup final loss was of course very disappointing,” he said. “When you get to a final everybody wants to win, and when this doesn’t happen, sometimes you cannot hang your head down for too long, you need to treat the experience as an inspiration and look forwards.

“I think Newcastle need that adaption, we need to start getting in more finals regularly and to win one. But this defeat, we should use it to give us the energy to get into the Champions League. It’s my goal here to finish in the top four this season, and it’s the goal of the whole team.

“Newcastle not having any other involvement in cup competitions should help us in the league for the rest of the season, unlike some of our rivals. But everybody wants to be playing European football, and Newcastle need to be playing in it again next season. So of course our goal is to make sure we get Champions League football for next year.”

Eddie Howe will manage England one day

Guimarães went on to praise the work Newcastle manager Eddie Howe has been doing at the club, adding that he will go on to manage England one day.

“Eddie is a good guy, and a good manager,” he said. “He’s the best manager that I’ve had during my football career, so I’m so thankful for what he’s teaching me and the boys. What he is doing at the club is amazing. He’s a good guy and I’m sure one day he’ll be the manager of England.”

The Brazilian also spoke of his delight at winning the North East FWA Player of the Year award.

“It means a lot to me to win it, it’s my first individual trophy in England,” he said. “It’s more special when you know that journalists voted for me, as they’re people that have been working within football for a long, long time. I did very well in my first year here, so this award means a lot and I’m very happy to win it.”
