Premier League Predictions & News
Premier League Betting Tips for Saturday 17th January
This weekend will see the Premier League get underway for Gameweek twenty-two of this campaign, with the table starting to take shape we’re all set for another round of pure PL drama.
@Footy_Tipster gives his best predictions ahead of this round of fixtures in the English Premier League..
Saturday’s Premier League action will start in Manchester, as United and City battle it out for not just a much-needed three points but also bragging rights in the Manchester derby.
Later that afternoon, we have five games kicking off at the traditional time of 3pm.
We’ve got another derby, this time in West London as Brentford make the short trip to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea, whilst another side from West London will make a trip up north as Fulham take on Leeds at Elland Road.
Liverpool look to continue their unbeaten run as they welcome struggling Burnley to Anfield, Sunderland go head-to-head with Crystal Palace at the Stadium of Light, whilst Tottenham Hotspur take on West Ham in a second London derby of the day.
Saturday night football is an intriguing one, as Nottingham Forest welcome the league leaders Arsenal to the City Ground at 5.30pm.
Now, let’s take a closer look at some Premier League odds and Premier League betting angles for Saturday’s fixtures:
Chelsea v Brentford – Saturday, 3pm
Punters can bet on Chelsea v Brentford with William Hill
- Life for Chelsea under Liam Rosenior started well having won their first game 5-1 against Charlton in the FA Cup last weekend but they did suffer a 3-2 defeat here to Arsenal on Wednesday night in the EFL Cup semi-final first leg, they’ll be hoping to bounce back here.
- Wednesday night’s defeat means its now just one win in their last seven games across all competitions for Chelsea, whilst they’ve not won any of their last three games here at Stamford Bridge, maybe Brentford aren’t the side Chelsea want to face right now having lost three of their last four meetings here on home soil.
- This is Liam Rosenior’s first Premier League game in charge of the Blues and he’ll be hoping to change history as just one of Chelsea’s last seven managers have won their first league game in charge, whilst the Blues have won just one of their last eight games against Brentford.
——————————–———————— - It’s fair to say a lot of people (including myself) owe Keith Andrews an apology with many people questioning his ability as a Premier League manager but he’s answered his critics and in style, he takes his Brentford side to Chelsea sitting fifth in the Premier League, just two points behind the top four.
- The Bees extended their unbeaten record to six games in all competitions with a 2-0 victory against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday in the FA Cup (W5, D1), their away form has been an issue this season but with two of their three away wins coming in their last two outings, maybe they’ve turned a corner.
- This is a tough one to call, Brentford have a fantastic record against their rivals but they’ve lost eleven of their last fifteen away London derbies in the Premier League (W3 D1), conceding at least twice in each defeat, i’m going to back Chelsea to edge it.
Prediction: Chelsea To Win, Chelsea 2-0 Brentford.
Leeds v Fulham – Saturday, 3pm
Punters can bet on Leeds v Fulham with William Hill
- Leeds suffered late heartbreak in their last Premier League outing after conceding two goals in stoppage time against Newcastle United which resulted in their first defeat in their last eight league games, a run of form which has seen the Whites give themselves an eight point gap to the bottom three.
- Daniel Farke’s side return to Elland Road on Saturday where they’ve not lost any of their last four games in the league (W2, D2), but it’s likely that Leeds will need to find a couple of goals in they are to win this one, as they’ve seen both teams on the scoresheet in each of their last eight home games.
- Leeds United lost their last home league game against Fulham in October 2022, they’ve never lost consecutive home league matches against the Cottagers, although they have lost each of the last four meetings against Fulham.
——————————–———————— - Fulham extended their unbeaten run to six games on Saturday with a 3-1 victory against Middlesbrough in the FA Cup, that comes off the back of their 2-1 win against Chelsea in the Premier League, a win that moved the Cottagers to just four points off the top four.
- Marco Silva’s side are unbeaten in their last four away games in the Premier League, although they’ve won just one of their last six visits to Elland Road in all competitions, whilst we should see goals as nine of Fulham’s last eleven matches have produced both teams scoring.
- Fulham are unbeaten in their last twelve Premier League games against promoted sides (W7 D5), winning each of the last five in a row. Victory here would see them win as many as four games against promoted teams in a single Premier League campaign for the first time since 2004-05.
Prediction: Both Teams To Score & Draw, Leeds 2-2 Fulham.
Liverpool v Burnley – Saturday, 3pm
Punters can bet on Liverpool v Burnley with William Hill
- Having lost three games in a row back in November, Liverpool have really found some form and their recent 4-1 victory against Barnsley in the FA Cup on Monday night means it’s now eleven games without a defeat for Arne Slots side.
- The Reds still remain fourteen points off Arsenal at the top but their focus this season will be a cup run and a top four finish, they enter gameweek twenty-two occupying that fourth spot and will be expected to keep that run going here.
- Liverpool won’t take this one lightly though having drawn with both Sunderland and Leeds at Anfield this season, they haven’t failed to win three successive home league games against promoted sides since January 2002.
——————————–———————— - Burnley travel to Merseyside fresh off the back of a 5-1 thumping of Millwall in the FA Cup on Saturday but it’s the Premier League where they need to put in those types of performances, with the Clarets now winless in their last twelve league games.
- Scott Parker is a man under pressure and relegation just seems more likely each week with his side now eight points from safety and just six points above a Wolves side that were labelled as one of the worst Premier League sides in history just a few weeks ago.
- Burnley have won just one of their ten league games on the road so far, whilst they head to Anfield having won just one of their last ten visits here (L7, D2), the Clarets have seen both teams on the scoresheet in 80% of their away games in the PL this season.
Prediction: Both Teams To Score & Liverpool To Win, Liverpool 3-1 Burnley.
Sunderland v Crystal Palace – Saturday, 3pm
Punters can bet on Sunderland v Crystal Palace with William Hill
- Since their 1-0 win against bitter rivals Newcastle just over a month ago, Sunderland have failed to win any of their last five Premier League games (D4, L1), whilst they return to home soil having knocked Everton out of the FA Cup on penalties last weekend.
- The Black Cats remain just one of two sides (Arsenal) that are yet to taste defeat on home soil in the league (W5, D5) whilst they could be boosted further here with more players returning from the Africa Cup of Nations.
- These two sides met back in September in the reverse fixture with the Black Cats the happier of the two sides having played out a goalless draw, that’s still now just one defeat for Sunderland in the last five meetings between the pair.
——————————–———————— - It’s starting to feel like a slippery-slope for Oliver Glasner and Crystal Palace, after not winning any of your last eight games in all competitions you would definitely fancy your chances against a sixth-tier side in the FA Cup, wouldn’t you?
- That wasn’t the case though for the Eagles with the FA Cup holders on the end of an embarrassing 2-1 defeat against Macclesfield, one of the biggest-ever upsets in the historic competition, Glasner will be demanding a proper performance on Saturday.
- I’m not expecting too much in terms of goals on Saturday with these two sides sitting in the bottom three for goals per game. With both sides looking for a win to stop their poor form i’m going straight down the middle and backing the draw.
Prediction: Draw, Sunderland 1-1 Crystal Palace.
Tottenham v West Ham – Saturday, 3pm
Punters can bet on Tottenham v West Ham with William Hill
- Tottenham Hotspur are a side that are really struggling to find any consistency this season, a 3-2 defeat to Bournemouth was followed up with a 2-1 defeat in the FA Cup against Aston Villa, defeat in this one would put huge pressure on Thomas Frank.
- Spurs fans have a right to vent their frustration as they’ve seen just two wins here from their first ten Premier League home games, they enter gameweek twenty-two sitting in fourteenth, six points off the top five but they still look miles off it.
- Tottenham Hotspur won the reverse fixture 3-0 back in September and victory in this one would secure a double over their rivals for the first time since the 2019/2020 campaign and with five wins from their last seven meetings (D1, L1) they’ll expect to win this one.
——————————–———————— - West Ham featured in a “six-pointer” game against Nottingham Forest in their last Premier League outing and after losing that game 2-1 on home soil, you just feel like relegation is inevitable as they sit seven points from safety.
- This West Ham side just don’t look to have any fight in them as seem to be heading to the EFL Championship with a whimper, whilst having to go to extra-time to get past QPR in the FA Cup on Sunday shows the state of the Hammers right now.
- The Hammers have kept just one clean sheet in their twenty-one games so far in the Premier League, they could find themselves on the scoresheet given the form that Spurs are in currently but i’m backing West Ham to extend their winless run to eleven games in the league.
Prediction: Both Teams To Score & Tottenham To Win, Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 West Ham.
Nottingham Forest v Arsenal – Saturday, 5.30pm
Punters can bet on Nottingham Forest v Arsenal with William Hill
- Nottingham Forest found themselves on the end of a cup upset on Friday night after a defeat to Wrexham on penalties after a 3-3 draw, that came after a big win for the Tricky Trees away at West Ham, a result which moved them seven points from danger.
- Despite that big win, Sean Dyche is another manager under pressure with just one win from his last six games in all competitions (L5) and with Forest winning just one of their last six games against the Gunners, that poor form could continue.
- Only West Ham and Wolves have lost more Premier League home games this season than Nottingham Forest. It’s the Tricky Trees’ joint-most defeats in their opening 10 home matches of a league campaign, while only in 1908-09 have they ever lost as many as seven of their first eleven.
——————————–———————— - Arsenal have definitely become the title favourites as they enter gameweek twenty-two six points clear of Manchester City at the top of the Premier League and they don’t seem to be slowing down, a 3-2 victory in the EFL Cup away at Chelsea on Wednesday extended their unbeaten run to ten games in all competitions (D1).
- Mikel Arteta’s side are looking to become the first Arsenal side since 2004 to win the Premier League title and they really do look the part so far, having lost just one of their last eighteen Premier League games (W13 D4).
- Arsenal have kept a clean sheet in each of their last three Premier League games against Nottingham Forest, their longest run of league shutouts against the Tricky Trees and i’m backing the Gunners to produce more of the same on Saturday night.
Prediction: Arsenal To Win To Nil, Nottingham Forest 0-2 Arsenal.
