Now, let’s take a closer look at some football betting angles for Sunday’s Premier League fixtures:
Newcastle United v Chelsea – Sunday, 12pm
- This is a huge for both sides in terms of their European ambitions, both sides sit on sixty three points and on the same goal difference, only goals scored separates the two sides with Newcastle currently fourth and Chelsea in fifth.
- Eddie Howe’s side have won their last four Premier League games on home soil, whilst they’ve also beaten Chelsea in each of the last three meetings in the North East. The Magpies have enjoyed themselves in front of goal in recent weeks as well, having scored at least two goals in six of their last eight games in all competitions.
- I think we can expect goals in this one albeit we might see a cagey affair, both teams have found the back of the net in five of their last six head-to-heads, including the reverse fixture back in October (2-1 Chelsea).
——————————– - Chelsea confirmed their place in the UEFA Conference League final on Thursday night with a 1-0 victory over Swedish side Djurgarden, although all the hard work was done the week before in the first leg, where the Blues won 4-1 away from home.
- It’s a competition that Chelsea should be winning in all honesty and it would guarantee them a Europa League spot but the Blues want more than that and after three Premier League wins in a row, they’ve put themselves in the mix of securing Champions League football, although defeat here could see them slip down to sixth.
- Despite winning the last two league meetings between these two sides, Chelsea haven’t won at St James’ Park since their 3-0 victory in 2021, they have quite an average away form so far in this Premier League campaign. (W7, D4, L6).
Prediction: Draw, Newcastle United 1-1 Chelsea.
Manchester United v West Ham United – Sunday, 2.15pm
- Manchester United confirmed their place in their third ever Europa League final on Thursday evening and they did so in emphatic style, with the final just under two weeks away, the Red Devils’ focus must now return back to the Premier League, where they’ve not won any of their last six games.
- It was a tough first half for United on Thursday evening, going into the break 1-0 down and under constant pressure from Athletic Club but after a triple change from Ruben Amorim with thirty minutes left to play, the game completely changed with United scoring four goals in the last twenty minutes.
- Manchester United’s form in the UEL in completely different to the Premier League, they are unbeaten in their fourteen games so far but in the league, they sit fifteenth and another defeat on Sunday could see them just one place above the relegation zone (albeit with three sides already relegated).
——————————– - A 1-1 draw against a much-changed Tottenham Hotspur side on Sunday afternoon hammered home the problems that Graham Potter is having at West Ham, having won just three of his sixteen games in charge so far, it’s been a dismal campaign for the Hammers.
- Scoring doesn’t seem to be a problem for this West Ham side though, they’ve found the net in eight of their last ten games in the Premier League but it’s their defence and failing to see out games which has been the issue, both sides have found the back of the net in each of their last five PL games.
- The Irons won the reverse fixture 2-1 back in October and have actually beaten United in three of their last four games. However, Old Trafford hasn’t been a great day out for them having won just one of their last twenty-two visits, their last league win here came back in 2007, a Carlos Tevez goal secured three points for the Hammers and kept them in the league.
Prediction: Both Teams To Score & Man United To Win, Manchester United 2-1 West Ham.
Nottingham Forest v Leicester City – Sunday, 2.15pm
- One win in their last four Premier League games has seen Nottingham Forest drop down to sixth in the league table and now out of the Champions League positions with just three games left to play, victory in this one could see them move back into the top five but it depends on results elsewhere.
- They been the real stand out team this season and it would be a shame if they start to fall at the final stage, they should be confident of taking all three points in this one against an already relegate Leicester City, but it’s an east Midlands derby and form goes out of the window in these games.
- The Tricky Trees have lost just four games at home this season, two of which has occurred in their last two outings at the City Ground, they’ve conceded just thirteen goals on home soil, giving them the best defensive home record in the league, alongside Liverpool.
——————————– - Leicester City finally put an end to their twelve game winless run across all competitions last weekend, a 2-0 victory against Southampton produced just a third league win for Ruud van Nistelrooy, as his time in charge looks to be coming to an end.
- The Foxes make the short trip on Sunday knowing they’ve picked up just nine points on the road during this campaign from a possible fifty-one, with just two victories so far, only Southampton have a worse away record.
- Leicester have won just one of their last eight visits to the City Ground, that came back in 2013 when both sides were playing in the EFL Championship but they’ve scored at least one goal in nine of their last eleven trips here.
Prediction: Both Teams To Score & Nottingham Forest To Win, Nottingham Forest 3-1 Leicester City.
Tottenham Hotspur v Crystal Palace – Sunday, 2.15pm
- Tottenham Hotspur return to north London after a trip to the Arctic Circle on Thursday night, a very memorable trip for the 400 Spurs fans that made the trip over, seeing their side win 2-0 on the night but also seeing their club secure their place in the Europa League final where they’ll play Manchester United in Bilbao.
- Like many sides that compete in European campaigns, Tottenham’s form hasn’t been great following a European fixture, having failed to win any of their five home games following a UEL fixture, with two draws and three defeats.
- With that being said, the Lilywhites have a fantastic record against Crystal Palace on home soil, they’ve won their last nine Premier League meetings against the Eagles as the home side, whilst the last time Spurs lost a league game here against Palace was way back in 1997.
——————————– - Crystal Palace followed up their famous 3-0 victory in the FA Cup semi-final with a 1-1 stalemate against Nottingham Forest on Monday evening, that extended their winless league run to five games, crushing any European ambitions.
- Oliver Glasner’s side now sit twelfth in the Premier League and seven points off Bournemouth in eighth with just three games left to play, despite sitting in the bottom half it’s still been a remarkable achievement given how much the Eagles struggled at the start of the season, i’m sure the FA Cup final is their priority now.
- Crystal Palace actually won this reverse fixture 1-0 back in October, they haven’t won back-to-back games against Tottenham Hotspur since October 1907.
Prediction: Both Teams To Score & Draw, Tottenham Hotspur 1-1 Crystal Palace.
