Famous Manchester City Fans

| BY News Team

Some celebrity football fans have jumped on a bandwagon, desperately needing an answer when the inevitable question comes from a ‘curious’ journalist. Others are true diehards who see their showbusiness career as an unwelcome obstacle to following their team around the country.

Many fall in between these two groups, of course. Football fandom is a scale from casual fans through to home-and-away devotees.

Celebrities desperately after a fashionable team might have picked out Manchester City in the last decade. Prior to that, famous people claiming to be City fans were either legitimate or attempting to be interesting.

Here are seven of the most famous Manchester City fans:

Michelle Keegan

Michelle Keegan bizarrely claimed people ‘didn’t know much about football’ back in the sixties when she was interviewed by BBC Breakfast. Keegan was also a Manchester United fan earlier in her life, before crossing the divide when she was dating Max George.

Speaking at the time, the former Coronation Street star said, “I was never a true United fan anyway. It was peer pressure. But I’ve seen the light since being with Max. City is my team and after watching the film Blue Moon Rising, I’ve found out that all true Mancunians are blues.”

Regardless of Keegan’s past allegiances, there’s no question she’s a City fan now.

Clive Myrie

Recipient of honorary doctorates and numerous awards, Clive Myrie is one of the best news broadcasters of his generation. Myrie was widely praised for his coverage of the war in Ukraine. He did the double of “Television Journalist of the Year” and “Network Presenter of the Year” in 2021.

Born in Farnworth on the outskirts of Manchester, Myrie isn’t shy about showing his City fandom on X (formerly Twitter). City fans often pick up a wry smile from the BBC presenter when covering the latest mishap at Manchester United.

Martin Lewis

Yes, the Money Saving Expert is a lifelong supporter of the most free-spending club in English football.

Martin Lewis, born in Withington, has shown his support for the club on social media in the past. In fact, a quick Google will even reveal a very old blog post about Manchester City reaching the top of the Premier League table when it was a far less common occurrence.

Ricky Hatton

Of famous Manchester City fans, Ricky Hatton’s association with the club has been closer than any other. Blue Moon rang out before his fights, the highlight of his career came at the Etihad Stadium, and the club’s motto is tattooed across his back for all to see when he was knocking out foes in the ring.

The Hitman told City’s website in 2024 that fans ‘saw him as one of them’, which contributed to his loyal fanbase.

Jackie Chan

Jackie Chan’s fandom of Manchester City began later in life. Chan declared himself a City supporter after meeting the squad in China only a couple of months after the Aguero goal against QPR.

While Chan isn’t a regular at the Etihad, and we have no idea how often he tunes in to City matches, there’s no question he’s among the most famous City supporters in the world.

The Gallaghers

Are any celebrities as synonymous with their football club as the Gallaghers are with Manchester City? Liam and Noel were vocally supportive of their local club long before the oil money and the treble-winning season.

Noel worked with City to release a ‘Definitely Maybe’ fourth kit in 2024, marking the 30th anniversary of the album. He’s often seen in the crowd and has been living the dream of any City fan by getting to celebrate trophies with the team.

Liam is less directly involved, but he’s always keen to trash Manchester United, which the Red Devils have made easy over the last decade or so.

The brothers announced their long-awaited reunion with a sell-out worldwide tour in 2024. Will we see them belting out Blue Moon at the Etihad in the near future?
