Over 100k players knocked out in Final One Standing opener

The new free-to-play game from William Hill, Final One Standing, has already caused heartbreak for thousands of players after its first weekend, with over 100,000 eliminated.

The rules are simple: players pick one Premier League team to win each game week. Get it right and you stay in, get it wrong and you’re out – all while chasing the ultimate £500,000 jackpot. But you can only pick each team once across the competition, so strategy is key as the season unfolds. Check out some tips and tricks to succeed at Final One Standing.

Tottenham proved the most popular pick in round one, with 29% of players backing them to beat Burnley – and Spurs delivered, keeping those players alive.

It was a different story for Aston Villa and Newcastle fans, though. A combined 46,443 players (16%) saw their selections wiped out after the two sides shared the spoils in Saturday’s early kick-off. Chelsea were just as costly, with their goalless draw against Crystal Palace eliminating 26,141 players in one go.

In total, 117,792 players (40.4%) were knocked out on the opening weekend, thanks to stalemates or losses for the likes of West Ham, Brighton, Everton, Manchester United, Burnley, Fulham, Wolves and Brentford.

That leaves 173,995 players still in with a shot at the £500k jackpot, with round two selections needing to be locked in by 8pm on Friday. For those already out, the game isn’t over – William Hill have launched a brand-new £50k league on the app to keep players in the mix.

William Hill spokesperson Lee Phelps said: “The first round of Final One Standing by William Hill is done and over 100,000 players have been eliminated!

“Just shy of 300,000 players entered round one and draws for Aston Villa, Newcastle and Chelsea took out a quarter of entrants. Tottenham and Manchester City justified their popularity, with both winning well to secure 133,847 players their place in the second round.

“Hard luck for those who are out, but they can already enter our new £50k league on the app ahead of the second round of Premier League fixtures. Players who have made it to week two need to get their picks in by 8pm on Friday and still have a chance of landing the £500k jackpot!”
