Lee Phelps’ Premier League Picks: Wolves to continue winning run

| BY News Team

2023 draws to a close for 12 clubs today and we’ve got everything from relegation threatened teams finding some form, to Man City mounting a challenge to the top two to consider with these bets.

First let’s look at the champions who are a ridiculously short, but understandable 1/25 to win. Don’t worry I’m not about to say Sheffield United are worth a punt at 28/1. City’s odds mean they have over a 95% chance of winning and it’s fair enough, I’m not sure the Blades would beat them if they played a hundred times.

The two ways in here for me are to pick a scorer, but with doubts over Erling Haaland’s inclusion I’ll go with a City win and both teams to score at nearly 2/1, given their defensive frailties of late.

Wolves v Everton is virtually a ‘pick-em’ as I write this and I think that means there’s a touch of value in the home side given their form at Molineux and the fact the Toffees are now three without a win. I tipped Wolves up to beat Chelsea and they obliged, so I’m going in again but I’ll add both teams to score in too to bump the price up to 4/1. Keep an eye on team news because if Pedro Neto starts after an injury lay-off he’s 12/5 to score and 3/1 to assist a goal.

Finally Nottingham Forest host Manchester United. Pick a result out of this! The home price isn’t quite big enough, but it’s hard to back Erik ten Hag’s lot at around 11/10.

The new manager ‘bounce’ of Nino Espírito Santo may be enough to persuade me to back Forest with both sides getting a goal. Their 3-1 win at Newcastle is obviously a good result and although they lost his first game in charge 3-2 at home to Bournemouth, the Cherries are one of the form sides in the division and they were down to 10 men after 23 minutes.

If you don’t want to take a result, Chris Wood’s hat-trick at St James’ Park followed a goal in the new gaffer’s first match, so I’ll back him in a high scoring match at over 2/1.
