Newcastle predictions 2024/2025

We are now through the first two gameweeks of the 2024/2025 Premier League season, and whilst it is still very early on in the campaign, we have learnt a lot about several sides competing this season.
One side that had a disappointing second weekend was Newcastle United, who were tipped by many to be fighting it out for Europe this year. They managed to snatch a draw away at Bournemouth but were arguably saved by a dubious VAR decision, leaving the south coast with merely one point.
Our list looks at the prospects of Newcastle this season.

Top Six Finish – 4/5
Despite the lucrative Saudi-backed takeover of the club, Newcastle haven’t kicked on in becoming a staple at the top of the Premier League. A fourth-placed finish to secure Champions League football two seasons ago looked as if they were on the right track, but they failed to build on that last season, being knocked out in the group stage of the competition and only managing to finish seventh in the league which didn’t afford them European football for this year.
Last year was a somewhat disappointing campaign for the Magpies but it’s clear they didn’t have the strength in depth to compete at the required level across several competitions. However, in not qualifying for Europe, this gives the team a far lighter campaign this time around and they can have a greater focus on the league. There’s no doubting the talent through their squad, with some of the league’s best in Anthony Gordon and Alexander Isak, as well as the young talent coming through such as Lewis Hall and Tino Livramento.
Whilst the ownership group have stated that they are being patient with the process, they need to see an improvement on last year’s league position, and with no Europe to concentrate on this year, it seems very likely they can make a sustained challenge for the top six this season.
Top Four Finish – 5/2
At a bigger price, Newcastle to finish in the top four needs to be considered. On the face of it, it seems as if they are up against it to finish in the Champions League spots, but there are a number of questions over the teams that should be in and around it come next May.
Manchester City and Arsenal look set to fight it out for the title once again, but City have the punishment looming from their financial breaches, this could distract them, or worse, see points deducted. Liverpool and Chelsea both have new managers who need to stamp their identity on the squad whilst negotiating European football, which could see a drop off in league form. Manchester United’s struggles look set to continue after their result against Brighton, so why shouldn’t Newcastle fancy their chances if they pick up form? Manager Eddie Howe has been in post for several seasons now, with a settled squad that have got into Europe before, so know what it takes. This, alongside their clear schedule with no Europe to worry about this season, could see Newcastle fighting it out for the Champions League once again.
