Premier League preview: Who you got this weekend?

| BY News Team

The Premier League returned with a bang last weekend with 28 goals across the 10 games, including five for Newcastle in their win over Aston Villa.

Last season’s title rivals also picked up opening round wins as Man City beat Burnley and Arsenal overcame Nottingham Forest.

The newly-promoted teams did not fare so well. As well as Burnley’s loss to Pep Guardiola’s treble winners, Luton were beaten 4-1 by Brighton and Sheffield United went down 1-0 to Crystal Palace.

Bet on the Premier League

Let’s take a closer look at three standout clashes in the top flight this weekend:

NOTTINGHAM FOREST v SHEFFIELD UNITED

City Ground

Friday, 18th August @ 19:45

Nottingham Forest and Sheffield United both lost on the opening weekend, so will be desperate to get off the mark when they meet at the City Ground on Friday night.

Forest have won their last three Premier League home games in the 2022/23 season. Meanwhile, the Blades have lost 11 of their first away league games in the last 17 seasons.

It’s 17/5 Forest win this one, with both teams finding the net. Taiwo Awoniyi scored in his fifth successive Premier League game last weekend against Arsenal. The striker is 7/5 to net at any time.

Key stat: Blades boss Paul Heckingbottom has won both of his away games against Nottingham Forest in all competitions.

Latest odds:

William Osula over 1 shot on target – 4/1

Taiwo Awoniyi to score and Forest to win 1-0 – 20/1

MAN CITY v NEWCASTLE

Etihad Stadium

Saturday, 19th August @ 20:00

Newcastle put in a five-star display on the opening weekend as they brushed Aston Villa aside. How will the Magpies fare against defending champions Man City?

The Etihad is not a happy hunting ground for Newcastle, they have never won there in 18 attempts (D2 L16) and have conceded 48 goals in their last 14 trips.

But this Newcastle team look different to previous years and have a credible goal threat in Alexander Isak. He netted two against Villa and finished with 100% shooting accuracy.

Erling Haaland also netted twice on MD1, picking up from where he left off last season. Get 9/2 on Haaland and Isak to both score in the game with Build #YourOdds.

Key stat: Man City have scored 97 Premier League goals against Newcastle and have scored at least three times against them in five of their last seven meetings. The Magpies could be the first team City reach a century of goals against in the competition.

Latest odds:

Man City to win 3-0 – 11/1

Newcastle to lead at half time and not win – 17/2

WEST HAM v CHELSEA

London Stadium

Sunday, 20th August @ 16:30

After 1-1 draws in their opening games, who will claim the bragging rights in this London derby on Sunday?

Chelsea came from a goal down to draw with Liverpool at Stamford Bridge and will be strengthened by the arrival of Moises Caicedo. The midfielder completed his record £115m move from Brighton on Monday.

West Ham will also have a new face in their squad as James Ward-Prowse looks set to make his debut. The former Southampton skipper has scored in two of his last four matches against Chelsea. He’s 4/1 to net at any time.

Hammers boss David Moyes has never beaten Mauricio Pochettino (D4 L1). Can he claim his first win over the Argentine? It’s 16/5.

Key stat: Chelsea have won 149 Premier League London derby matches and could be the second side to reach 150 in the competition, after Arsenal.

Latest odds:

Michail Antonio to score at any time – 4/1

Chelsea to win and both teams to score – 3/1
