Premier League Sack Race After Matchday 20: Amorim leaves Man Utd

| BY News Team

After Matchday 20 of the 2025–26 Premier League season, the managerial merry-go-round has spun faster than ever.

Two seismic dismissals in the space of a week have blown the sack race wide open and forced punters to reassess who might be next for the chop.

Two Big Names Gone in Days

Just four days ago, Enzo Maresca was sacked by Chelsea, bringing an abrupt end to his tenure at Stamford Bridge following a disjointed run of form that left the Blues drifting off the pace in the top-four hunt. Todd Boehly’s regime has shown little appetite for patience, and the decision — while not entirely shocking — still landed like a thunderclap given the timing.

Then came the truly staggering news: Ruben Amorim was dismissed by Manchester United this morning. Amorim’s 14-month spell had promised structural change, but despite flashes of progress, the league results were erratic, performances uneven and the relationship with the hierarchy reportedly frayed. A Carabao Cup semi-final run, and Europa League final appearance were not enough to outweigh the churn of dropped points and lingering tactical questions.

Two giants, two managers, two ruthless calls. The sack race narrative simmering for months is now a rolling boil.

The Big Three: Market Leaders in the Sack Race

With the latest odds placing Nuno Espírito Santo (4/5), Arne Slot (4/1) and Oliver Glasner (5/1) at the head of the market, each manager’s circumstances reveal why punters believe another sacking may be imminent.

Nuno Espírito Santo — 4/5

No manager is closer to the edge than Nuno. The side that once squeezed matches into suffocating, low-event chess contests is now creaking under pressure, conceding soft transitions and struggling to sustain intensity for 90 minutes. After their Premier League tenth last season, the magnifying glass is well and truly on Nuno sitting 17th this season.

Forest have taken just three points from their past five league matches. Forest’s owner, Evangelos Marinakis is not known for prolonged deliberation when form sours. While Nuno is admired for past overachievement at Wolves and a pragmatic nous that once felt tailormade for survival scraps, his current price suggests his solutions are not landing.

Arne Slot – 4/1

Arne Slot thoroughly enjoyed his debut season with the Reds when winning the league, but this season has been far more tumultuous after a summer of heavy spending on new recruits hasn’t exactly gone to plan.

Although far shorter earlier on this season to be sacked, Liverpool’s recent form has somewhat picked up which has seen Slot’s price ease in the market. He looks safe for now but with the volatile nature of Premier League owners, he’s not out of the woods yet.

Oliver Glasner — 5/1

Glasner’s Crystal Palace tenure has not collapsed, but it has stagnated — a different crime in the Premier League’s eyes, yet one that carries its own jeopardy. Palace are now 14th, closer to the relegation battle than the European chase they once envisioned.

Palace’s board value long-term identity more than most, but even patient clubs grow twitchy when the curve flattens. If January recruitment does not inject fresh edge into his system, confidence could turn into conclusion.
