Sunderland Top Half Odds Cut After Chelsea Victory
Sunderland’s odds across key Premier League markets have tumbled following a remarkable start to life back in the top flight, and they are now as short as 3/1 with William Hill for a top-half finish, having opened at 33/1 at the start of the season.
The newly promoted Black Cats are now considered more likely to secure a top 10 finish at 3/1 than to be relegated (5/1), highlighting how Regis Le Bris’ men have defied expectations so far this season.
Sunderland began the campaign at 2000/1 to win the Premier League, with a handful of early bettors taking that price. Following their impressive 2-1 win at Chelsea and a rise to fourth place with 17 points, those odds have shortened to 200/1.
Their chances of finishing in the top six have also improved dramatically, moving from 75/1 before the season to their current 14/1, with significant money having been placed along the way at 50/1.
Spokesperson for William Hill, Lee Phelps, said: “After Sunderland’s stunning win at Chelsea, the biggest shake-up in our markets has come in our Top 10 market, where Regis Le Bris’ side have collapsed into just 3/1, having been 33/1 at the start of the season, making them our biggest loser in that book.
“It’s Halloween on Friday, and it’s fair to say the Black Cats already have us spooked! At this stage, they’re actually shorter to finish in the top 10 at 3/1 than to be relegated at 5/1.
