Premier League Top 5 Finish Odds: Newcastle On Verge Of Champions League Qualification

Newcastle are now overwhelming odds-on favourites with William Hill in the race to secure a top five place in the Premier League and earn Champions League football next season.
After their 2-0 win over top five rivals Chelsea, the Magpies have shortened into just 1/20 (equivalent to a 95% chance) from 4/11 to finish in the top five, while Chelsea have gone the other way, drifting to 8/13 (62% chance) from 2/7.
Manchester City remain strong second favourites to secure Champions League football at 1/16, while Aston Villa’s (5/4) chances have improved after their weekend win over Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest (5/1) are outsiders to feature in next season’s UCL after being held by Leicester City.
Spokesperson for William Hill, Lee Phelps, said: “The title race and relegation battle may already have been decided but the battle for Champions League qualification, with five spots on offer for the first time, is turning out to be an enthralling one, and Newcastle now look to hold the upper hand.
“Eddie Howe’s side are 1/20 from 4/11 to secure a top five spot after defeating rivals Chelsea at St James’ Park, and they are now shorter than Man City in the race for the Champions League.
“Chelsea’s odds have slipped out to 8/13 after their defeat and they now have Aston Villa snapping at their heels in the market at 5/4.”
With just two league games remaining, Newcastle are in control of their own destiny in the race to qualify for the Champions League. The Magpies could even finish second if they win both of their remaining fixtures…
