Where will Kalvin Phillips go next?

Premier League tips

The time is Summer 2021, and England have just lost in the Euro 2020 final to Italy. A massively disappointing result for the country with the wait for major silverware going on, but the performances of Kalvin Phillips left reasons to be encouraged.

The then Leeds midfielder started every single match at the tournament and looked assured alongside Declan Rice. A move to the champions Manchester City followed, which seemed a natural progression based on Phillips’ performances in the previous Premier League campaign and the Euros.

Fast forward to now and Phillips couldn’t be further away from England’s Euro 2024 squad, following a sub-par loan spell at West Ham and just 31 appearances for Man City since joining, so it’s clear the move didn’t work out for both parties.

Our list looks at the most likely destinations Phillips could end up to revitalise his career.

Bet on Kalvin Phillips’ next move here with William Hill

Everton – 5/4

Everton are market leaders to secure the signature of Phillips this summer. Toffees manager Sean Dyche previously attempted to sign Phillips when manager of Burnley and is a long-term admirer of the midfielder.

The links to Everton are amid rumours that current Everton midfielder Amadou Onana may be on his way out of Goodison Park, meaning the club would need a replacement and subsequently could look to secure the services of Phillips.

It’d likely be on a loan deal – like the West Ham move – which would suit both parties due to Everton’s precarious financial situation and with City looking to increase Phillips’ stock with a view to selling him for an increased value.

Newcastle – 13/2

Newcastle is next in the betting at 13/2. The Toon club have had a disappointing season in comparison to their previous campaign and may look now to bring in some new faces to strengthen the squad.

Whilst they are fairly covered in midfield, a number of their current options are either rumoured or close to completing moves away from St James’ Park – with Elliott Anderson close to finalising a move to Nottingham Forest – and the rumour mill around Bruno Guimarães’ future continues. If there are a few names to go out the door on Tyneside, they may make a move for Phillips.

Leeds – 8/1

The chances of Leeds signing Kalvin Phillips would’ve decreased after they lost to Southampton in the Championship Play-Off Final, but don’t rule out the Championship club potentially moving for him.

He played his best football to date in a Leeds shirt and is highly regarded at Elland Road, and whilst the Championship would be a considerable step down for Phillips, Leeds have just sold promising youngster Archie Gray to Tottenham for an estimated fee of £30 million and could significantly strengthen the squad around their former man.

If Leeds were to spend well, promotion would look very likely with a squad that is already very strong for the level, even more so if they were add to the services of the England midfielder.
