Roma will make the short trip to the Santiago Bernabeu to face the reigning Champions Real Madrid. The clash commences at 8pm, and all eyes on how Julen Lopetegui’s men will perform without Christiano Ronaldo, with the game featuring on BT Sport.
Real Madrid vs Roma: Predictions and odds
Eusebio Di Francesco’s men are tipped as 13/2 favourites, with the home side betting at 7/20, and a potential prediction trading at 17/4.
Despite playing away from home, Roma have been picked to win by betting tipsters against last year’s champions. Perhaps the absence of a certain Portuguese striker has put a damper on Madrid’s chances, but based on stats, we’ve tipped key players on Roma’s side to be the reason behind the controversial prediction.
In particular Edin Dzeko and Alessandro Florenzi spring to mind. The former has scored in each of his last five Champions League games, and with odds of 15/2, we’ve tipped him to continue this streak against Los Blancos come Wednesday.
Yet to rule out Real Madrid from this clash would be extremely foolish on Di Francesco’s part. At home, Real Madrid have won 22 of their last 25 group stage games (W22, D3), last tasting defeat nine years ago against AC Milan in 2009.
They boast an attacking lineup, featuring the likes of Karim Benzima, Gareth Bale, Isco and the young Vinicius Junior. We’ve tipped their stars to be prolific in front of goal, with particular interest on Bale; he’s our pick to score first as part of our Real Madrid vs Roma predictions, with odds of 11/4.
Real Madrid vs Roma predictions: Head to head
This will be the 11th encounter between Real Madrid and Roma in the Champions League.
Madrid have trumped the Italians in previous years, prevailing with six wins to Roma’s three, and one draw on the cards.
But there is every chance that this year, the I Giallorossi will snatch a victory against Madrid on home turf.
On what could be called a controversial pre-match verdict, we’ve tipped them to win against Lopetegui’s men.
Real Madrid vs Roma betting tips: Prediction, best bet, scorer
Predicted score: Roma to win 2-1, betting @ 18/1
Roma may be playing away from home, but given the attacking talent they possess, we’ve predicted that they will win by two goal to one.
Yet for this to happen, players like Dzeko and Perotti will need to be on the front foot at all times, and prevent Madrid from playing out from the back into attack- their preferred style of play: a tall order, indeed.
But given that Roma’s last clean sheet in the Champions League was against Los Blancos in 2002, with a 1-0 win against Madrid on their home turf, betting tipsters have selected Roma to repeat the successes they achieved over a decade ago, as part of our Real Madrid vs Roma predictions.
Real Madrid have only failed to score in one of their last 56 Champions League group-stage games, and with a star-studded predicted lineup, they’ve been tipped to be just as prolific in front of goal this Wednesday.
In the absence of Ronaldo, Bale and Benzima have stepped up in recent games, consistently finding the back of the net, and if pre-match predictions are anything to go by, they will be just as threatening against Roma.
Yet as an attacking unit, Roma have been just as entertaining to watch.
Combining this with the fact that Di Francesco’s side have not kept a clean sheet in the Champions League in their 10 previous games against Madrid, all evidence points to a goal-fest of five potential goals.
Predicted scorer: Stephen El-Sherawy to score first, with odds of 12/1
El-Sherawy has been tipped to score first with good odds, and will pose a problem for the Spanish defence.
With his main skill being his shooting, he also provides an extra dimension with his darting forward runs, and pace down the flanks, betting comfortably as part of our Real Madrid vs Roma predictions
If Sergio Ramos and co are to contain him, he will need to man-marked well, yet considering his pace, this could be a struggle for the not-so-speedy madrid fullbacks.
We’ve tipped El-Sherawy to score.
Real Madrid vs Roma: Opta stats
- Real Madrid will be without Christiano Ronaldo who contributed to 50% of Madrid’s goals in the Champions League from 2009/10 to 2017/18.
- Roma are making their 11th appearance in the Champions League. Only Juventus (19), AC Milan (17) and Inter Milan (12) have made more among Italian sides
