Scottish Premiership Odds: Hearts close gap on Celtic in William Hill Premiership title betting
Hearts have shortened to 5/4 in William Hill’s Scottish Premiership outright market after their 2-1 win over Rangers moved them six points clear at the top of the table.
The Edinburgh side are closing in on Celtic at the head of the betting, with the title race tightening heading into the second half of the season.
The weekend price change reflects the impact of Hearts’ latest statement result. Having gone into the weekend as 15/8 shots, their victory over Rangers at Tynecastle has seen them cut to 5/4, underlining how seriously Derek McInnes’ side are now being taken as genuine contenders for the crown. Six points clear at the summit, Hearts have translated their strong league position into growing respect in the outright market.
Celtic remain favourites for the title despite the pressure from the current leaders. Wilfried Nancy’s team have shortened only slightly to 5/6 from 10/11, but they still occupy top spot in the betting as traders continue to factor in their experience and squad depth over a full campaign.
Had Nancy not picked up his first win for the Hoops at the weekend, we could’ve been seeing a different market leader. The smaller gap between 5/6 and 5/4 compared to earlier in the season shows how quickly the picture has changed as Hearts keep putting wins on the board.
Rangers, meanwhile, have seen their own title prospects take a hit. Defeat at Tynecastle has pushed them further off the pace both in the table and in the market, with their odds drifting from 11/4 to 7/1. They now sit some way behind the front two in the betting, reflecting the size of the task facing them if they are to reinsert themselves into the title conversation.

William Hill spokesperson, Lee Phelps, said: “Hearts’ 2-1 win over Rangers was a real statement and we’ve had to react by cutting them to 5/4 from 15/8 for the William Hill Premiership title. Celtic are still our favourites at 5/6, but the difference between the two clubs at the top is getting smaller with every positive result Derek McInnes’ side put on the board.
“Rangers have gone the other way, easing to 7/1 from 11/4 after the weekend, which shows how big a blow that defeat was to their title hopes. As things stand, the market is shaping up as a two-horse race between Celtic and Hearts, with the leaders firmly in the conversation as realistic champions rather than just early-season pacesetters.”
