Next Rangers Manager Odds: Gerrard Backed Into Outright Favourite

Steven Gerrard has been backed into 7/4 from 9/4 with William Hill to make a sensational return to Rangers as their next permanent manager, following the departure of Russell Martin.
Following a poor start to the season, with Rangers winning just one game from their opening seven in the league and exiting the Champions League at the play-off stage, Russell Martin found himself under serious pressure very early into his Rangers tenure.
It was a 1-1 draw to Falkirk, leaving Rangers seventh in the table, that saw Martin relieved of his duties, with attentions switching to Steven Gerrard to fill the void in the Rangers dugout.
The former Liverpool captain famously guided the Ibrox side to the William Hill Premiership title in 2021, ending Celtic’s nine-year dominance of Scottish football. Now, just a few years on, he has emerged as the frontrunner to retake the reins in Glasgow.

With the Russell Martin news still relatively fresh and the Rangers hierarchy still considering their next appointment, there’s likely to many developments and changes in the betting yet, here are the current odds.
William Hill spokesperson Lee Phelps said: “This is one of the great jobs in British football and, as expected, there’s likely to be plenty of competition for the role. We’ve seen an early move in the betting for former Ibrox boss Steven Gerrard, who has shortened into 7/4 from 9/4 and is the frontrunner to replace Russell Martin.
“Experienced Premier League boss Sean Dyche (11/4) and ex-Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Rohl (3/1) come next in the market, with current Shanghai Port head coach Kevin Muscat (4/1) also near the front of the betting.
“Muscat is an interesting one having reportedly been close to getting the Rangers job in 2023. He’s since won silverware in Japan and China and of course won the treble as a player at Ibrox in 2003 under Alex McLeish.
“Barry Ferguson wasn’t given the full-time role after his interim role at the end of last season, but is 16/1 to assume the top job now, while Scotland’s national head coach Steve Clarke is in the betting at 25/1.”
