League 2 Football Preview

Following Brendan Rodgers’ shock resignation last night, William Hill has opened its next permanent Celtic manager market, installing ex-Hoops coach Ange Postecoglou as the early favourite at even-money (EVS) to take the reins once again.

The return of a familiar face could soon be on the horizon for Celtic. The Australian coach who famously guided the Hoops to consecutive league titles before departing for Tottenham remains a beloved figure among the Parkhead faithful. Even now, fans speak fondly of his high-intensity style of play. With growing speculation surrounding Celtic’s next managerial move, punters are already backing his potential return and the odds are beginning to reflect that renewed optimism.

Meanwhile, across Glasgow, Rangers have undergone their own share of upheaval. Following a series of managerial shifts, the club has turned to Danny Röhl, who couldn’t have hoped for a better start, securing a debut win against Kilmarnock and injecting some much-needed belief back into the squad. Celtic supporters will be hoping for a similar “new manager bounce” of their own as both clubs attempt to steady their ships amid a turbulent season.

Amid all this chaos and change, Hearts have quietly been the big winners. While the Glasgow giants sort out their managerial dramas, the Jambos have built serious momentum in their pursuit of the Scottish Premiership crown, having won the top of the table clash against Celtic. Their strong form has not gone unnoticed by the bookmakers either, Hearts are now priced as short as 11/8 to lift the William Hill Scottish Premiership Title, and those odds continue to shorten.

William Hill – Football – Manager Specials

  • Ange Postecoglou – EVS
  • Kieran McKenna – 7/2
  • Martin O’Neill – 5/1
  • Shaun Maloney – 7/1
  • Edin Terzic – 7/1
  • Steve Robinson – 8/1
  • Kjetil Knutsen – 8/1
  • John McGlynn – 9/1
  • Robbie Keane – 10/1
  • Damien Duff – 10/1
  • BAR – 11/1

Kieran Mckenna is second in the market at 7/2, despite being the current Ipswich manager, but European football could pull him away.

Interim manager Martin O’Neill is third in at 5/1 following his temporary appointment alongside Shaun Maloney, with former Borussia Dortmund coach Edin Terzić priced at 7/1.

Maloney himself is also a 7/1 chance to take on the permanent role, ahead of a selection of names including Kjetil Knutsen and Stephen Robinson (both 8/1).

Falkirk boss John McGlynn (9/1) as well as former Celtic loanee Robbie Keane (10/1) are also seen as potential options to occupy the vacant hot seat.

Spokesperson for William Hill, Lee Phelps, said: “Following the surprise announcement of Brendan Rodgers’ resignation late last night, Celtic have moved swiftly with an interim solution in Martin O’Neill, but our opening book suggests Ange Postecoglou is the man who could take up the permanent role at even-money. His dominant spell managing the Hoops two years ago makes him the early favourite, and he’s available after recently departing Nottingham Forest.

“It wouldn’t be a shock to see Martin O’Neill take up the permanent role in Glasgow and he’s next in the market behind Ange at 5/1. Former Borussia Dortmund manager Edin Terzić is 7/1, joined by O’Neill’s newly appointed interim assistant manager Shaun Maloney who is also 7/1.

“Behind him are Kjetil Knutsen and Steve Robinson (both 8/1), while John McGlynn, Kieran McKenna (both 9/1) and Robbie Keane (10/1) are also firm possibilities to take charge permanently.”
