Scottish Title Race Predicted to Go to Final Day
League sponsor expects three-way battle between Hearts, Rangers and Celtic to conclude on ‘Helicopter Saturday’
The William Hill Premiership will be decided on ‘Helicopter Saturday’ with Rangers the favourites to land their first title in five years – according to the title sponsors’ odds experts.
Following the announcement of the eagerly anticipated post-split fixtures, William Hill – official title sponsors of the SPFL – have declared the three-horse title race is odds-on (4/9) to go to the final day of the season.
Sutton backing Hearts
On today’s episode of The Warm-Up, Chris Sutton, Kris Boyd and Steven Naismith came together to discuss the title race and share their predictions on how the season will play out at the top and bottom of the league as we reach an exciting finale.
At the top – all three predicted a last day decider, with Sutton happy to take on the oddsmakers by predicting a Hearts league title. Boyd and Naismith see the title heading to Ibrox.
At the bottom of the league, Boyd said he would be “very worried” from an Aberdeen perspective, predicting their form could send them to 11th and the relegation play-off. Naismith and Sutton saw Kilmarnock and Aberdeen as the most likely participants in the play-off.
The prediction they all agreed on is that the run-in will be full of twists and turns, reflecting on the incredible statistic that this season there has been only one weekend so far this season where all three of Hearts, Rangers and Celtic have won their league games.
Hearts remain top of the William Hill Premiership table but their title bid has been dented by Sunday’s 2-2 draw with bottom-club Livingston.
Danny Rohl’s Rangers side have now been installed as even-money favourites for the title having overcome a 12-point deficit to sit just one point behind the Jambos.
Defending champions Celtic are second-favourites to win their fifth title in a row, at 2/1.

Title to be decided on the final day – 4/9
Spokesperson for William Hill, Lee Phelps, said: “This is the most exciting Scottish football season for 40 years and we are proud to be the title sponsors.
“Now the post-split fixtures have been revealed we can really start to get excited about the climax to the season and the big takeaway is the odds say defending champions Celtic will finish second behind Rangers – reflecting the turbulent season they’ve had under three different managers and Martin O’Neill on his second spell in charge this season alone.
“While Hearts would be the fairytale ending, the odds experts have looked at their recent dip in form and the fact Rangers have continued their resurgence under Danny Röhl, and decided to price Derek McInnes’ men as 5/2 third-favourites.
“It means there’s plenty of value for the punter and we’ll be announcing lots of special offers over the course of the run-in, including tricasts to predict the top-three places, top goalscorer and even odds on all four William Hill SPFL divisions changing leader before the end of the season.
“There’ll be many fluctuations between now and the end of the season but according to our oddsmakers one thing is certain: we’ll be revving up the rotor blades again in the William Hill Premiership and the 16th of May will be ‘Helicopter Saturday’.”
