World Cup 2026

The dust has settled on the summer transfer window of 2024 after it slammed shut a little over a month ago.

We have seen several players who changed clubs this season take to the pitch for their new teams and our list below looks at the best signings from the summer transfer window.

Kylian Mbappé – PSG to Real Madrid – FREE

Without a doubt, the marquee signing of the summer window was Kylian Mbappé moving from PSG to Real Madrid. Rumours had been circulating about the move for years, and it finally came to a head when Mbappé announced last season that he wouldn’t be signing a new contract in Paris, allowing Real to swoop in and sign the forward on a free.

Signing arguably the best player in the world on a free transfer is no mean feat and it can’t be argued that this is the best signing of the window. Mbappé has already scored six goals for La Casa Blanca and looks to have slotted well into a team already scattered with world-class talent such as Jude Bellingham and Vinicius Jr.

On paper, this is the best team in the world, and it would be no surprise to see them win all the competitions they are a part of – if they can keep all the egos in their team in check. 3/1 for a consecutive Champions League success looks a good price.

İlkay Gündoğan – Barcelona to Manchester City – FREE

The return of Ilkay Gündoğan to Manchester City from Barcelona probably didn’t surprise many City fans, it just made them question why the German midfielder was ever allowed to leave the club in the first place.

Now 33, Gündoğan is entering the twilight of his career but, judging by the level of performance he has displayed since arriving back at the Etihad, there isn’t any notable drop-off yet. He hasn’t missed a beat since re-joining the squad and has slotted seamlessly back into proceedings, bagging his first goal back in Tuesday evening’s Champions League fixture against Slovan Bratislava. Similarly to Mbappé, this was a free transfer and a shrewd deal by Manchester City which has proven beneficial already.

Emile Smith Rowe – Arsenal to Fulham – £27 million

In terms of a needle mover, few transfers this summer can compare to Emile Smith Rowe’s move across London to Fulham from Arsenal. The Cottagers completed a deal for the English midfielder for an estimated £27 million, which has looked to be good value after Smith Rowe’s showings to begin the season.

His talent was never in question as he played a large part of the Arsenal squad in 2021, consistently coming up with the goods for a team that were nothing like the powerhouse we see these days. If it wasn’t for his contributions then, there’s no guarantee Mikel Arteta would still be in a job at the Emirates.

Fitness and injury problems followed which left him behind at Arsenal, leaving him unable to replicate that form that had Arsenal and football fans so excited about him in the first place. For Fulham, they’ve signed a player who on his day can win a game in one phase of play and it has looked that way since the beginning of this season. He has five goal contributions in a Fulham shirt so far and doesn’t look far from being back to top form, as the Whites sit sixth in the Premier League table.
