The 2025 summer transfer window has now closed and Carlos Baleba remains a Brighton & Hove Albion player. It’ll be interesting to see how he performs for the Seagulls in the coming weeks and months.

All-action midfielder Carlos Baleba enjoyed a breakout season for Brighton in 2024/25.
The Cameroonian has been subject to interest from Manchester United this summer as a result, with the Red Devils priced as the sports betting favourites to land Baleba before the end of the transfer window.

Brighton, as they have with other desired players, have held firm. They have stuck by their demand of at least £100 million for Baleba.
Their firm approach meant United’s pursuit seemed effectively over a couple of weeks ago, but a slow start to the season might kick the Old Trafford hierarchy into action.

United’s Desperation
Casemiro is somehow still starting in Manchester United’s midfield in August 2025. Manuel Ugarte, signed from PSG almost exactly 12 months ago for €50 million, has been massively disappointing.
Ruben Amorim needs at least one midfielder before the window shuts. Ideally, the club would acquire Baleba and a deep-lying playmaker, according to First Post.
This window has already seen expenditure of over £200 million from United, with Matheus Cunha, Benjamin Šeško, and Bryan Mbeumo brought in to revamp the forward line. Amorim is demanding further reinforcements, though, after starting the season with a defeat to Arsenal and a draw away to Fulham.
How United fund the deal remains unclear. It has been speculated they could sell Bruno Fernandes to the Saudi Pro League, but wouldn’t that create another issue Amorim needs to solve? Brighton’s demands might simply be too rich for a club that doesn’t have European football this season.
Chelsea Could Swoop Again
Chelsea know the process when it comes to negotiating with Brighton. The Blues are also thought to be in the market for another midfielder and could target Baleba to provide a third option in the middle of the park, along with Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernández.
Chelsea are very dependent on the availability of that duo as it stands. Roméo Lavia has been at the club for two years and make a grand total of 17 Premier League appearances.
For all the scepticism about the business model in the Todd Boehly era, Chelsea have generated over £200 million in player sales. Such revenue could help them to fund a last-minute move for Baleba.
Brighton Can Hold On
Chelsea probably won’t spend £100 million on a player who won’t be in their first choice XI. United are struggling to move Jadon Sancho, Antony, and others as they attempt to free-up wages and bring in transfer fees.
Brighton are a legitimate challenger for a top six place, as the Premier League betting markets indicate. They have nothing to lose by keeping hold of Baleba for another year – his value could increase further if he builds on his 2024/25 showing.
