The dawn of a new Premier League campaign is now but a brace of bedtimes away so what better time to get stuck into your inaugural dose of insider betting analysis from the William Hill trading team?
Traders Talk is your regular, money-can’t-buy AAA pass inside the craniums of our odds gurus and this week’s edition lifts the lid on a star forward expected to strike-out in his team’s opener, as well as the best-backed side in the outright betting.
Taking on the Egyptian King…
Liverpool host Norwich in the Premier League opener on Friday evening.
The Reds have scored 11 goals on the last three occasions the sides have faced at Anfield, and as expected, punters are backing Liverpool’s front men to fill their boots against The Canaries.
After scoring 22 goals in last season’s Premier League campaign, sharing the Golden Boot with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and teammate, Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah was keen to get on the scoresheet in the Community Shield.
With 10 shots-on-goal, more than the Manchester City team combined, the Egyptian international had a 40% shot-on-target ratio, hitting the woodwork twice in the process.
We are keen to lay Salah at an enhanced price of 4/1 (Was 10/3) to score two or more goals in this fixture.
Only on three occasions last season did the Champions League winner score a brace or more and we fancy him to start the season slowly after a heavy summer schedule on international duty.
Money talks in Premier League ante-post action
The Premier League top-scorer market rarely throws up any surprises, and for us, this season will be no different.
Unsurprisingly, Salah has been a popular pick by punters, especially given our pre-season offer; if you bet £20 on a top-scorer market you get a £5 free bet every time he scores before September 1st.
For us, Sergio Aguero is a player that we are ready to take on, as such, we are Top Price for him to be top-scorer at 6/1.
The Argentinian international has scored 20+ goals for five consecutive seasons, breaking City’s goal scoring record in the process.
However, we feel that Pep will try to look after the 31-year-old and with Gabriel Jesus chomping at the bit for more starts, Aguero may be on the bench with increasing frequency against the weaker sides.
Outright ante-post markets are decided by the stronger fan base the majority of the time, especially with City’s prohibitive price of 4/9 for the title.
After recording a historical 97 points and finishing second, punters are backing The Reds to go one better this year.
We’ve taken three times as many bets on Liverpool as we have on City and to be brutally honest, only taking singles into account, City are by far our best result.
