Wes Brown EXCLUSIVE: “Champions League football will be outstanding for United”

Wes Brown talks exclusively to William Hill
Former Manchester United and England defender Wes Brown talks exclusively to William Hill about Manchester United as the new Premier League season 25/26 is starting. Wes looks at Manchester United’s transfer window and new signing Sesko. Wes also looks at the season ahead for Manchester United and also which signings can impress
How do you rate Manchester United’s transfer window so far ranking from A-E?
Wes: Ranking it, I would have to say A. You look at Mbuemo and Cunha and they were the stars of the Premier League last season. They create chances, they get fans off their seats and create and score goals.
This is what Manchester United were missing and you have ready made players who know the Premier League to fit straight in to the team and get going from the opening game. I’m excited to see both players become a success at the club and they will have full backing of the fans to perform on the pitch. With the addition of Sesko, Manchester United have a striker who is young and hungry and confident. With these three coming it, it can complement the talent of Bruno and Amad, plus the young players like Heaven coming into the team.
What do you make of the signing of Sesko?
Wes: It’s a great signing for Manchester United. The type of signing that the club have been looking to achieve for a number of years.
It’s also the right time doe Sesko, with all respect he was playing for Leipzig in Germany, but now has his move to a big club in Manchester United where he wants to show on big stage what he can do.
It’s also great for the club to have two strikers in Sesko and Hoijland who can compete together and play as a pair or with one starting and pushing the other.
Manchester United needs competition and signing Sesko can give a further lift to the Club in what has been an A grade off season bringing in Cunha and Mbeumo as well
The signing of Sesko is great for the creative players we have as well, especially Amad and Bruno who will create plenty of chances for Sesko to score.
The quality on wide areas is very good now so this season can be a positive one for Manchester United.
I think Sesko has all the attributes to score plenty of goals for Manchester United. He is mobile, good in the air and with his feet so it all bodes really well for the club.
Talk to us about Matthijs de Ligt as we head into the season;
Wes: I am a big fan of Matthijs de Ligt and believe he can become a cornerstone of Ruben Amorim’s defence at Manchester United this season and beyond. Matthijs de Ligt can be an elite defender for Manchester United. He’s had some really good games and when he settles into life at the club he’ll be a big success. He’s been playing at the highest level for so many years now at such a young age and now it’s about showing everyone what he can do at Old Trafford. I think he’ll find his rhythm in Ruben Amorim’s system and be a valuable player for many years to come.”
What are your expectations for United?
Wes: Manchester United have to improve on last season and I think they will. They’ve made good signings, they’ve invested in key areas and in Cunha and Mbuemo, they have two players who are Premier League ready, who have been playing in the League for years and know exactly the pace of the game and what to expect. Sesko can be the icing on the cake to really kick start the resurgence for the club. I would hope that Manchester United can push for European football and a Top6 or 7th finish. This is the key now for Manchester United, to push for minimum European football. Look if we can get Champions League football, it will be an outstanding achievement.
First and foremost, it’s about being better than last season. Then a domestic trophy would also be great for the Club. Title is out the question I think as the top 4 are too far ahead and with such quality and deep squads, I am not sure we are there yet. But we know have the basis of a squad that can compete well, plenty of attacking options, plenty of creativity and defensively the team will be better for sure. I am excited as a Man Utd fan for the season ahead.
What signing are you looking to see this season and who will have an impact on their team?
Wes: I look at Viktor Gyokeres signing for Arsenal and he can be the missing link they are looking for to bring the title back to London. He looks a top striker and another option for Arsenal to use in their attack to score goals.
Arsenal have been looking for a number 9 for a while and with Havertz now back in full fitness, Mikel Arteta has a number of options to use to win games. They have come 2nd three years in a row and after a good transfer window, they have strong depth and can really push for the title this year.
