Where will Romelu Lukaku go next?

| BY News Team

The summer transfer window is open with many players rumoured to be on the move as clubs look to strengthen ahead of the new season.

Someone who is all too familiar with the transfer window rumour mill is Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku. Currently on the books at Chelsea, he hasn’t enjoyed the best of spells being loaned out to Inter Milan and Roma in the last two seasons, and it looks likely he will be moved on from the club this summer.

Our list looks at the most likely destinations for Lukaku.

Bet on Romelu Lukaku’s next move here with William Hill

AC Milan – 6/4

Despite not hitting the heights that may have been expected of him when joining Manchester United for £75 million, Lukaku has still proved himself as a dangerous asset in European competitions, and having spent the past two seasons in Italy, he has been of the best strikers in Serie A. He may look to stay in Italy, with AC Milan leading the market to secure his signature.

Lukaku has reportedly already said yes to the Rossoneri after they turned their interest to him, having dropped out the race to sign Joshua Zirkzee. Lukaku is reported to find the AC Milan project intriguing and is open to joining the club.

Napoli – 6/4

Napoli have recently appointed Antonio Conte as their manager, who has reportedly made Lukaku one of his priority targets. The pair worked together at Inter Milan, where Lukaku enjoyed a prolific spell, and he could well end up in Naples this summer.

However, it’s likely that current Napoli striker Victor Osimhen will need to be moved on before a move for Lukaku can be made. Osimhen has been heavily linked to a move away from Napoli, so it will leave the starting striker position vacant, and it would be no surprise to see Conte and Lukaku link up once again.

Any Saudi Club – 4/1

Following the two Italian clubs in the market is a move to the Saudi Pro League. Lukaku previously turned a move to Al-Hilal down last summer, admitting he wasn’t fully bought into the Saudi Pro League project, which has since seen several big names make the switch to the Middle East.

Lukaku currently earns £325k p/w and it’s likely he would have to take a pay cut to make the move to one of the Serie A clubs listed, but a move to Saudi would see those wages matched at least, if not improved. The move to Saudi Arabia would make sense to Chelsea, who would likely be able to recoup more of the fee they paid for the striker in 2021.

The best of the rest

Fenerbahçe (8/1) are next in the market. The Turkish club have just appointed José Mourinho who brought Lukaku to Manchester United initially and worked with him at Roma last season. Fenerbahçe’s president Aziz Yıldırım revealed the club’s intention to try and sign Lukaku and they may look to make the move for the Belgian on a cut price deal.

Everton are a 12/1 shot, and a surprise return to Goodison Park can’t be ruled out. He played some of his best football in an Everton shirt and the Toffees may look to make a move for Lukaku if Dominic Calvert-Lewin is on the way out.
