William Hill’s STRIPPED podcast series for 2022/23 football season

This season, we have launched a brand new football podcast series called STRIPPED, taking fans on a journey through the careers of former players and celebrities via their favourite football shirts.

Tune in each week as a different celebrity guest joins hosts Specs Gonzalez, a digital creator, and YouTuber David Vujanic on our sofa as they run through their favourite vintage football strips from over the years and discuss the nostalgia, iconic moments and special memories associated with them.

We’ll be celebrating all that we love about the beautiful game so make sure you follow us on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube to catch the latest episode of STRIPPED every Thursday – with the audio podcast also available across all major platforms.

Episode one: Adebayo Akinfenwa

Episode one of STRIPPED kicked off with EFL legend Adebayo Akinfenwa, who was on hand to tell us about how he threatened his AFC Wimbledon team-mates in order to get hold of Steven Gerrard’s Liverpool shirt during an FA Cup game.

Akinfenwa also discussed how he became a lifelong Liverpool fan and how he nearly could have become an Arsenal supporter, as well as also speaking about his Nigerian heritage and what it means to him.

Episode two: Fara Williams

Episode two of STRIPPED welcomed Fara Williams, who let us in on her experiences of learning to play football in a male-dominated environment and on setting the all-time appearance record for England.

She also discusses how she didn’t let her love for Chelsea get in the way of a big transfer to Liverpool and how Marc Overmars gifted her a pair of his Arsenal boots.

Episode three: Poet

Episode three of STRIPPED saw Specs and Vuj sit down with football presenter Poet. He discusses idolising Ian Wright and how he believes modern-day Arsenal would have run out of patience with Thierry Henry after his slow start in the red and white shirt.

He also touches on World Cup memories and how football has impacted his life.

Episode four: Joleon Lescott

Episode four of STRIPPED welcomed Joleon Lescott, who discussed the best player he ever played against in the Premier League – Louis Saha. Lescott revealed that he was so infuriated by the ex-Fulham and Manchester United forward that he even considered retirement.

He also discussed his impressive career across top-flight English clubs, playing for the likes of Wolves, Everton, Aston Villa and Manchester City.

Episode five: Guvna B

Episode five of STRIPPED welcomed rapper Guvna B, who told the lads how a joke he made about West Ham was the reason he made it to the number one for the first time. He also discussed how while he’s a big Hammers fan now, they weren’t the club he originally fell for.

Episode six of STRIPPED saw Rio Ferdinand take to the sofa, with the former Premier League defender revealing how he once told a Manchester United fan that he’d never play for the Red Devils because he was jealous of their success. He also discussed his views on VAR as well as a range of other football topics.

Episode seven of STRIPPED welcomed Tom Grennan who discussed life growing up as a Manchester United fan in Bedford, almost making it as a professional footballer and a boxing session with David Beckham that caused him to throw up!
