Czech Republic v Republic of Ireland – Thursday, 7.45pm
View all available markets at William Hill.
- Runners-up back in 1934 and 1962, Czech Republic have the chance to qualify for their tenth FIFA World Cup if they are able to get through these two play-off fixtures, it’ll be their first WC since Germany 2006.
- Not only will Miroslav Koubek’s side play this game on home soil, they’ll also have the advantage of playing the final on home turf if they are to progress which is a huge boost given they haven’t lost any of their last sixteen games on Czech soil (W13, D3), the Czech Republic are priced at 1/2 with William Hill to go progress.
- These two sides haven’t met since a friendly back in 2012, whilst Czech Republic have won each of their last two games (v San Marino & Gibraltar), they did lost the games previously against all the odds at the Faroe Islands, something that will give the RoI some confidence.
——————————–———————— - It’s been an even longer wait for the Republic of Ireland in the FIFA World Cup having not participated in this tournament since 2002, victory in their next two games would see RoI reach just their fourth ever FIFA World Cup.
- Heimir Hallgrímsson’s side left it late but gave themselves a chance having scored a 96th minute winner away at Hungary to set up this tie, its’ now three wins in a row for the Boys in Green including 2-0 victory against Portugal, the Irish are 13/5 to win this game within ninety minutes.
- This is a huge game for the Irish but it’s likely they’ll need to find themselves at least one goal just to stay in with a chance of qualifying here given they’ve conceded in nine of their last ten games on foreign soil.
