World Cup
Belgium Football Team Preview
The Belgium men’s national football team has officially represented Belgium in international competitions since 1904.
They have come close to winning all three major championships – finishing third in the 2018 World Cup, as runners up in the 1980 European Championships and fourth in the 2021 Nations League.
Can this talented squad finally go a few places better and land the biggest trophy of them all in Qatar?

Belgium will be appearing at their 14th World Cup in Qatar. They finished fourth at Mexico 1986 and then bettered that with a third-place finish at the 2018 World Cup, where they lost to eventual winners France in the semi finals and then went on to beat England 2-0 in the third place play-off.

Who is the head coach of the Belgium National Team?
Roberto Martinez is a face well known in the Premier League for his time as manager of Wigan Athletic and then Everton. After leaving his role at Goodison Park he was appointed Belgium head coach in 2016.
He led Belgium to a World Cup semi final in 2018, and they came agonisingly close to making the 2021 Nations League final, when again they found rivals France just too strong.
Matrinez has managed Belgium in 76 games since 2016, achieving 55 wins for an impressive 72% win rate.
Who is the captain of the Belgium National Team?
Real Madrid’s Eden Hazard is the current captain of the Belgian team. The 31-year-old already has 122 caps for the national team and has scored 33 goals. Hazard was given the captaincy ahead of the 2018 World Cup and will now lead his country at third successive major tournament.
Who are the star players for Belgium?
This is undoubtably a golden generation of Belgian football. They rose to be FIFA’s highest ranked side in world football in 2015, holding the position for six months, and then again reaching the summit for a longer period between 2018 and March 2022.
However, while they still have a hugely talented squad, their stars are beginning to age and this may be the last World Cup Kevin De Bruyne and Eden Hazard play in while they are still in their prime.
They are undoubtedly Belgium’s stars and would make most peoples’ lists of the world’s top midfielders. Both bring goalscoring prowess, with De Bruyne in particular capable of unlocking the tightest defences with a threaded pass.
Belgium have talent in all positions, though, with Romelu Lukaku a proven goalscorer, a defence marshalled by Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen and a world-class shot stopper in Thibaut Courtois in goal.
