Czechia v South Africa Prediction: 19/10 Value For Czechs Win To Nil?

William Hill News look at the Group A contest between Czechia and South Africa, as the second matchday of the 2026 World Cup gets underway on Thursday evening.

Czechia and South Africa meet in Atlanta with both teams already under the cosh after opening-day defeats. Czechia lost 2-1 to South Korea after scoring first, while South Africa fell 2-0 to hosts Mexico in a messy game that turned on discipline as much as quality. In a short group stage, this feels close to a knockout tie already.

The European side arrive with a stronger recent record than South Africa, even if the opening result stung.

Before losing to South Korea, Miroslav Koubek’s side beat Kosovo and Guatemala in friendlies and edged Denmark and Ireland on penalties in the qualifying playoffs. Ladislav Krejci scored in the opener, which at least showed Czechia can land an early punch in a tense game.

South Africa’s build-up has been shakier, and the Mexico defeat extended that frustration. They were beaten by Mexico in a match that also brought two red cards, with Sphephelo Sithole and Themba Zwane both sent off.

That leaves Hugo Broos needing a calmer, cleaner performance from a side that has not found much rhythm in recent outings.

Czechia v South Africa Best Bets:

  • Czechia to win – 17/20
  • Czechia to win to nil – 19/10
  • Czechia to win 1-0 – 11/2

Meanwhile, Czechia have no reported injury concerns, and that gives Koubek the chance to stick with a settled core.

Adam Hlozek is back in the squad after recovering from calf and foot injuries, and Patrik Schick remains the focal point up front. Tomas Soucek, Pavel Sulc and captain Ladislav Krejci give Czechia a strong spine through midfield and defence.

South Africa’s headache is more obvious. Sithole and Zwane are both unavailable after their dismissals against Mexico, which trims Broos’s options in the middle and in attack.

Ronwen Williams, Teboho Mokoena and Lyle Foster still give them a competitive base, but they need a sharper, more disciplined shape to stay in the contest.

Without a shadow of a doubt, Czechia look the more direct side, with a set-piece-heavy approach that can become awkward for opponents if the delivery is right and the second balls fall kindly.

South Korea handled that threat in the opener, so Czechia need to show more imagination if South Africa sit deep and wait for mistakes.

South Africa are likely to lean on compact defending and quick breaks, especially with the loss of Sithole and Zwane making control in midfield harder to sustain.

Lyle Foster’s movement can give them an outlet, but they will not want this to become a long game of defending corners and free-kicks against a taller, more experienced Czech side.

Czechia v South Africa Match Odds:

  • Czechia – 17/20
  • Draw – 23/10
  • South Africa – 3/1

Patrik Schick is the obvious Czech danger. He offers the kind of penalty-box presence that can decide a match where chances may be scarce, and Czechia will trust him to make one moment count.

For South Africa, Lyle Foster is the name that can change the mood quickly. If he gets support from the wide areas and South Africa can play through the first Czech press, they have enough pace to make this uncomfortable.

This has the feel of a tight, tense scrap rather than a free-flowing game. Czechia have the more reliable structure, the cleaner recent form and fewer team-news issues, which nudges them into favour.

South Africa can make life awkward if they keep the game alive into the final half-hour, but the missing midfield presence from the Mexico red cards is a major problem.
