McIlroy drifts for The Players following back injury concerns

Morikawa (16/1) leads liability list for William Hill ahead of Sawgrass

Spokesperson for William Hill, Lee Phelps, said: “Rory McIlroy is usually one of the first names punters look for at The Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass, but his back injury and the nature of the course have cooled interest in the Northern Irishman this week; he’s drifted out to 12/1 from 8/1.

“Even as a two‑time winner, our models don’t love Rory’s fit here with Sawgrass placing more emphasis on accuracy and plotting your way round than pure power, so it’s no surprise to see some of the shorter, straighter hitters proving more popular in the run‑up to Thursday’s start.

“From our point of view, Collin Morikawa (16/1) and Ludvig Åberg (22/1) would really damage us if they get hot with the irons. We’ve already seen plenty of interest for Morikawa at 22/1, and have subsequently clipped his price into 16/1. Si Woo Kim is another player who we’ve had to cut from 28/1 into 20/1 and he’s had the fourth-most money staked on him behind Scottie Scheffler (4/1 from 10/3), Morikawa and Aberg.”

Tournament Winner:

Scottie Scheffler 4/1 (from 10/3)
Rory McIlroy 12/1 (from 8/1)
Collin Morikawa 16/1 (from 22/1)
Si Woo Kim 20/1 (from 28/1)
BAR 22/1
