Golf Majors Preview 2025: What to Expect from the Biggest Events

The PGA Tour is back in full swing, so the Major championships are just around the corner. The Majors are the highlight of the golf year.
The best players fight for them, and we see some of the best golf 2025 will bring. Here’s a look at the four golf major championships of 2025 and what golf betting punters should know about each one.
The Masters Tournament
The one major golf Championship that doesn’t change location from year to year is the Masters, which will be held from April 10th to 13th this year. Last year, we saw Scottie Scheffler put on the green jacket, and of course, he’s the current favourite despite an injury to his hand in December.
Augusta National is renowned for its course conditioning, even though it dealt with storm damage in late 2024. There is no doubt Augusta will be ready for competition in April. With its strategic design, perfect pin placements like those seen at Amen Corner, and lightning-fast greens, the Masters is the favourite of many golf fans for good reason.
- Dates: April 10–13, 2025
- Venue: Augusta National Golf Club, Augusta, Georgia
- 2024 Champion: Scottie Scheffler
- 2025 Favourite: Scottie Scheffler (4/1)
PGA Championship
This year, the PGA Championship will be held at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina. The course is known for its difficult finishing holes, which will test every area of a golfer’s game.
We last saw the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow in 2017, when Justin Thomas was champion. Thomas has said his game feels good, and this could be a big year for him. He may be a golfer to consider for PGA Championship betting.
- Dates: May 15–18, 2025
- Venue: Quail Hollow Club, Charlotte, North Carolina
- 2024 Champion: Xander Schauffele
- 2025 Favourite: Scottie Scheffler (9/2)
U.S. Open
The U.S. Open will be held at the famous Oakmont Country Club in Oakmont. Pennsylvania. We’ve seen the U.S. Open here before; in fact, the 2025 U.S. Open will be the 10th time that Oakmont will be hosting the event.
The most recent was in 2016, when Dustin Johnson was crowned champion. Oakmont is known as one of the most difficult golf courses in the world, thanks to its rough, deep bunkers and incredibly fast greens.
Even though Bryson DeChambeau won the 2024 U.S. Open, the early favourite is Scottie Scheffler.
- Dates: June 12–15, 2025
- Venue: Oakmont Country Club, Oakmont, Pennsylvania
- 2024 Champion: Bryson DeChambeau
- 2025 Favourite: Scottie Scheffler (5/1)
The Open Championship
The last major championship of 2025 is The Open Championship. This year, the event will be held at the Royal Portrush Golf Club in Portrush, Northern Ireland. This will be the third time The Open is held at Royal Portrush; in 2019, Shane Lowry was the champion.
The course offers coastal views and the classic links style we have come to expect from the Open. Players must be creative and bring their A-game to navigate the difficult greens.
Xander Schauffele won the 2024 Open. Although he’s not the favourite for any of these four majors, with two major championship victories in 2024, we know he is capable.
- Dates: July 17–20, 2025
- Venue: Royal Portrush Golf Club, Portrush, Northern Ireland
- 2024 Champion: Xander Schauffele
- 2025 Favourite: Scottie Scheffler (11/2)
Key Takeaways Ahead Of The 2025 Majors
If you plan on using the William Hill website to place your bets for any of the four major golf tournaments of 2025, here are a few things to remember.
- Scottie Scheffler: The betting favourite for all four majors, his consistency across different course styles makes him a strong pick.
- Venue Insights: Each venue presents unique challenges, from Augusta’s creativity to Oakmont’s punishing difficulty. Understanding how a player’s skill set matches the course is critical for smart betting. Even though Scheffler is the favourite to win The Open, his links-style play has not always been his strongest.
- Past Champions: Xander Schauffele and Bryson DeChambeau’s recent major wins could also generate momentum for strong 2025 performances. Don’t forget to consider past champions like Shane Lowry, Justin Thomas, and Dustin Johnson, who have shown they can perform under major tournament pressure at the exact courses they are playing again in 2025.
The 2025 major season promises great golf and a strong addition to the golf history books. Start watching players early in the season to see who may be peaking at just the right time to win a championship.
