How to bet on The Masters 2024

William Hill offer a variety of golf markets to bet on including Tournament Winner, First Round Leader, as well as a player to finish in the top five, top 10 or top 20.

Betting odds represent the probability of an event happening and you can work out what you will win from your stake using your odds. For example, if a selection is at odds of 5/1, and you were to stake £1, you would win £5 as well as your stake of £1 being returned, leaving you with £6 overall.

Outright Winner Bets

An outright winner bet is betting on one player to win the entire tournament. This means that you are betting on a player to finish with the lowest score after every player has finished their final round of the tournament.

Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm are the three at the top of the market for the 2024 Masters.

Scheffler is the favourite having won the 2022 Masters, so the course certainly suits him. Scheffler is the current world number one and has been for over 80 weeks now, so he cannot be ignored. McIlroy has struggled on the PGA Tour of late and the Green Jacket is the one thing that has evaded him in his career so far, so whilst he will be more determined than ever, the pressure builds on him to win this tournament with every passing opportunity. Not much has been seen of LIV Golf’s Jon Rahm since he made the big-money move, but he was last year’s victor and will certainly want to prove his worth back against the best players.

Top Finish and Each-Way Bets

Top finish betting usually involves betting on players to finish in either the top five, top 10 or top 20. This also includes players that finish tied for a top 20 position, for example if five players were to be tied for 20th spot, they would all count as winning selection in a top 20 finish bet.

Each way bets consist of two stakes, one is a bet on the player to win the tournament outright, and the other is for the player to finish within a certain number of places e.g. 8 places. If you place an each-way bet with 8 places on offer, if your player doesn’t win but finishes in the top eight your selection will win at a fraction of the odds e.g. 1/5 of the odds, and half of your stake will be returned.

Market leaders worth a look

Scottie Scheffler currently sits atop the market at 5/1, the shortest price of any player for the Masters since the days of prime Tiger Woods. Whilst the odds are slim, his chances are great and when it comes to ball-striking only Rory McIlroy can really go toe-to-toe with the American. His memorable win at The Players Championship not too long ago proved just how great he is and a second Masters win cannot be counted out.

Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm make up the top three at 9/1 and 11/1 apiece. These look much weaker selections despite both players’ obvious talents. McIlroy has been less than impressive since winning on the Dubai Desert Classic back in January, whilst his continued shortcomings at Augusta would make him a nervy selection even if he were a few shots clear on Sunday morning. Rahm’s lack of competitive action could see him wilt under the pressure and it must be noted that a LIV Golf player is yet to win a Major after signing for the breakaway tour.

Former champion Jordan Spieth sits fourth in the market at 18/1 but he has not been at his best for a while now, recently missing the cut at The Players. He knows the course like the back of his hand but that has not necessarily helped him in the past, his memorable meltdown in 2016 no doubt still playing on his mind.

The value outsiders

For many the Masters is about finding that big-priced outsider who will trouble the top of the leaderboard or maybe even snatch the Green Jacket, so we have picked out a few from the pack who we think could make a charge at the title and provide good value for their odds.

Wyndham Clark is one of the most in-form players at the moment having picked up a win and two runner-up finishes so far in 2024. Last year’s US Open champions is currently a 25/1 shot and looks a great pick if he can continue his hot streak – the only downside being that this will be his first time playing the infamous Augusta National.

Our next selection, at a much bigger price of 50/1, comes in the form of Australian Min Woo Lee. The Chef, as he is now known, has amassed a huge fanbase on the PGA Tour and has put in the performances to warrant that. His most impressive outing came at the Cognizant Classic where he managed a T2 finish, whilst his course from is also not too shabby having recorded a 14th place finish here back in 2022. With a huge backing behind him, there will be many hoping that Augusta National will “let him cook” in 2024.

Another man who started the 2024 season incredibly strongly is Chris Kirk, who kicked off his campaign by landing The Sentry back in early January. Since then, Kirk has stayed amongst it and managed four top 30 finishes. Combine that consistency with three impressive finishes in four outings at Augusta and Kirk may just be the ultimate value play at 100/1.
