Golf fans – it’s finally Masters week. It’s a matter of days now until the first ball is hit off the tee at Augusta National. As we countdown the hours, we take a look at some potential picks to land the coveted green jacket.

Augusta National is an infamously tricky course that has taken many souls over the years, with Amen Corner being responsible for the majority. This year will surely be no different, as all four days look set to provide non-stop entertainment.

Finding the winner of the Masters is no easy task, but we have two early selections whom we think could go well.

Bet on the Masters at William Hill

Collin Morikawa 14/1

The 2021 Open champion Collin Morikawa travels to the Masters in good form.

Morikawa led the Arnold Palmer Invitational on the final day, but was unable to hold onto his winning margin as Russell Henley’s chip-in soured any attempt of birdie on the closing holes.

With back-to-back finishes in T17 at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and the Genesis Invitational, and starting the year well by finishing 2nd at Sentry, Morikawa has been tipped by many to lift the title at some signature events this season on the PGA Tour, as well as the first Major of the year.

The Ryder Cup team member finished T3 last year at Augusta National and T10 the year before, so he’s got a track record of being competitive at the Masters; it’s just a matter of getting the job done this year.

It’s no secret that being a great ball-striker and gaining strokes on the field in approach play is crucial to performing at Augusta National, and Morikawa is at the top end of the spectrum in that regard.

It’s hard to imagine Morikawa won’t be in contention on Saturday or Sunday, and at 14/1, we think he’s a great selection.

Bryson DeChambeau 16/1

Bryson DeChambeau has continued to impress on the LIV tour, as well as in the majors in the last 12 months. However, unlike Morikawa, we can’t analyse DeChambeau’s form at greater detail, as he’s played less events and in a different format.

The Crushers GC captain finished T6 in last year’s Masters and was one of the eight players to finish under par that week in Georgia. A final round of one over par placed him at two-under overall for the week.

DeChambeau has started the LIV season in good form, finishing T6 in Riyadh, T18 in Adelaide and T20 in Hong Kong. The Crushers have finished 4th in two events and 9th in the other so far this season.

After causing controversy in previous years for his comments about Augusta National, such as stating the course is realistically a par-68, DeChambeau himself has admitted that he’s made some clumsy statements in the past and has a renewed outlook on the tournament.

He’s proven he can perform on the biggest stages in golf, winning the 2020 and 2024 US Opens. His most recent Major win saw him edge out long-hitting rival Rory McIlroy by a shot, after firing a superb but awkward bunker shot from 60-yards and getting up and down. We tipped DeChambeau for that competition in a previous blog.

We think it’s only a matter of time before DeChambeau adds to his Majors portfolio, and it could well happen this year at Augusta National. Marginally behind the front-running favourites in the odds, we can see great value in this bet at 16/1.
