The 2026 Walker Cup will be held on September 5 and 6 at Lahinch Golf Club in County Clare, Ireland. The United States are 8/15 golf betting favourites to win the event.

The U.S. have won the last five editions, including the 2025 Walker Cup Match at Cypress Point by a score of 17 to nine.

Event Preview

Seven of the world’s top nine amateur golfers are on the U.S. roster, so it’s hardly surprising they are clear favourites for this Walker Cup. Great Britain and Ireland have less experience of the Walker Cup compared to their opponents, aside from the stalwart Stewart Hagestad.

Jack Whaley, fresh off a historic win at Merion, has made the Great Britain and Ireland team alongside world number three Tyler Weaver, who has had a strong season with Florida State.

Ryder Cowan tied for the low amateur honours at the US Open. He saw off Miles Russell at Merion. Few players in the field can rival Cowan’s form, so there’s value taking him at 15/2 in the betting to top score for the favourites.

What Is the Walker Cup?

The Walker Cup is a team golf competition between the top male amateur golfers in the U.S. and Great Britain and Ireland. Unlike its professional equivalent in the Ryder Cup, it has never been expanded to include other European nations.

The U.S. have won 40 of the previous 50 Walker Cup Matches.

What Is the Walker Cup Format?

Teams of 10 compete in four foursome matches on Saturday followed by 10 singles matches on the Sunday. Since 2009, all 10 players have featured in Sunday’s singles action.

Scoring will be familiar to anyone who has followed the Ryder Cup. A point is gained for each win, and each team receives a half point if a match is tied.
