Nick Luck’s William Hill blog: Saturday at Sandown Tips

William Hill ambassador Nick Luck previews Saturday’s action from Sandown which survived inspection, and Wincanton which hopefully will.

Saturday, Sandown

JET PLANE looks the likeliest winner of the TV opener at a frosty Sandown on Saturday (1.50). He’s a fair tool on decent ground, confirming that with a bloodless win at Leicester last time. He’s a good jumper who likes to get on with it, and there’s fair chance he can get this small group of old timers and iffy types on the back foot from fairly early on.

THAT’LL DO MOSS might be the answer to the mares’ race (2.25). She’ll find this much more suitable than her seasonal debut at Kempton, where she was a marked drifter in the minutes before the race. Her best form gives her nothing to find on these terms, and she’s shown a liking for this track before.

LE MILOS could be set for a twilight big prize in the Veterans’ Final (3.00). He’s a fundamentally quicker horse than most of these, has some good form here, and has now eased to a mark that saw him win a couple last year. He’s not really been involved at all on either start this season, but expect him to be handier from the outset today.

ALL IN YOU rates nap material (3.35). He ran a mighty race behind Dance and Glance at Ascot, but was poorly positioned, and likely would have won had he sat a little closer. That was  might effort first up for new connections, who remain in excellent form.

Saturday, Wincanton

KELCE looks a very likely winner of the first TV race at Wincanton (1.30). Connections have left Transmission in the race, which will stop the weights rising, and his stablemate will find this a fair bit easier than the competitive chases he’s been contesting with great credit at Grade One tracks. The yard is going nicely enough, and he should make a bold bid from near the sharp end.

CELINE MAN is a slightly nutty pick at an enormous price in a moody looking heat for big telly (2.05). John Jenkins doesn’t have many jumpers these days, but has trained a winner in this sphere this year ridden by Robbie Dunne, who is down to his lightest to ride this one. This horse has been round the houses, and hasn’t run for ages, but one piece of form on a sound surface round a tight track suggests he has enough basic ability to win from a basement mark. He’s moved yards, had a wind-op and is now right down in trip, having checked out over further on soft ground. I’ll be getting involved each way anyway.

CRUDEN looks the way forward in a slightly better race (2.40). He did well enough in a light career for James Ewart, but shaped as though a fair bit better was possible on his Flat tune-up on his debut for Dan Horsford. This looks the right race under appropriate conditions.
