William Hill reveal Cheltenham Festival handicappers making them sweat
McLaurey, Backmersackme, Koktail Divin and The Yellow Clay all shorten in handicap betting
Spokesperson for William Hill, Lee Phelps, said: “With the weights for the Cheltenham Festival handicaps just revealed, there are some well-handicapped horses that we think have been let in lightly. As a result, we’ve seen some interest already, and enough to see some notable market moves.
“McLaurey has the option of the Plate and the Jack Richards, and we are very wary of the JP McManus-owned chaser. He looks to have a nice mark and has shortened from 6/1 from 8/1 for both options as a result. Koktail Divin is another shortener in the Jack Richards – he’s into 8/1 from 10/1.
“Dublin Racing Festival winner Backmersackme has hardened in the betting for the National Hunt Novices’ Handicap Chase from 7/1 to 6/1 following a couple of the prominent Willie Mullins-trained horses in the betting receiving a mark higher than the 145 limit. We’d always be cautious of his nephew Emmet in a race like this, and he could prove nicely treated off his current mark.
“We feel as if The Yellow Clay could be the class act off his rating in the two-and-a-half-mile handicap hurdle on the Wednesday. He’s been backed into 14/1 and if the money keeps coming the way it has, he could be single figures in the coming days.”
