Ascot Champions Day 2025: Antepost Tips After Latest Scratchings

Royal Ascot Day 2 Tips

Every year, Champions are crowned at the thrilling finale to the British Flat season, but who exactly will be taking home the silverware this year?

I look through the state of the antepost betting markets for Champions Day at Ascot, following today’s scratchings stage:

1.20 – British Champions Long Distance Cup (Group 1) 2 miles.

Trawlerman confirmed himself as the standout performer in the staying division when we last saw him in the Lonsdale Cup Stakes at York.

It comes as no surprise that he is trading as short as 4/5 for this season ending finale.

The Classic generation in this contest is represented by Scandinavia (5/2), who has won the Goodwood Cup and St Leger, while Francis Graffard’s Sibayan (5/1), steps up to two miles for the first time but proved his class when winning the Group 1 Preis von Europa.

2.05 – British Champions Sprint Stakes (Group 1) 6 furlongs.

Last year’s winner Kind Of Blue (8/1) is one of three potential runners for Wathnan Racing who have also entered Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes hero Lazzat (6/1) and Flora Of Bermuda, third in this contest last year and an 8/1 chance for this.

Big Mojo (8/1) is of great interest, having won the Sprint Cup at Haydock racecourse last time out as well as the Commonwealth Cup Trial over course and distance.

2.45 – British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes (Group 1) 1m4f.

It’s somewhat of a strange antepost betting market for the Fillies & Mares Stakes, as several of those at the top of the market are currently engaged in the Prix de L’Arc de Triomphe on Oct 5th, and if they win that race, they are 99.9% certain not to turn up at Ascot.

Kalpana, Minnie Hauk  and Estrange jointly share the head of the betting market at 5/1, which is a fair reflection of their respective chances.

3.25 – Queen Elizabeth II Stakes (Group 1) 1 mile.

Field Of Gold (9/4) is still on course to re-appear in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes.

The Juddmonte-owned colt was very impressive when winning the Irish 2,000 Guineas and the St. James’s Palace Stakes, and has been given a break following a below-par effort in the Sussex Stakes.

Delacroix (7/2) retains the option of dropping back in trip to a mile having raced over further this season, while Docklands delivered the performance of his career when taking the Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot and is a juicy looking 12/1 shot in the antepost horse racing betting odds.

4.05 – Champion Stakes (Group 1) 1m2f.

Prince Of Wales’s Stakes and Juddmonte International winner Ombudsman (2/1) is a popular pick given what he has achieved on the track this season.

Threatening him in the betting however, is the French star Calandagan (5/2), who was this year’s King George VI and Queen Elizabeth II Stakes winner.

Last year’s winner Anmaat (7/1) is bidding to become the first horse since Cracksman to win back-to-back renewals of the race.

Suggested antepost bet: Big Mojo (8/1) in the Sprint Stakes.
