Charlie Hills’ William Hill blog: Can’t wait to run Khaadem in the Nunthorpe

York, Friday

It’s been a quiet start for us this week at York but things really ramp up over the final two days with some nice chances.

Our main hope is Khaadem in the Nunthorpe (3.35pm). I’ve always thought he was a top-class sprinter and maybe we got a touch carried away when he won the Stewards’ Cup in 2019. He didn’t quite go on as we’d hoped after that but since gelding him over the winter, he’s been a totally different horse. His victories at Newmarket and Goodwood have shown that he has the ability we always thought he had.

I was hopeful before the King George as he’d been in great form at home, but it was fantastic to see him go and win the race. It was a brilliant day.

We’re obviously now taking on Group One horses, but he’s got a good draw in stall seven and he’s full of confidence, so I can’t wait to run him.

Earlier on the card, Galeron takes his chance in the Gimcrack (3.00pm).

The form of his maiden win is working out well with the runner-up winning the Molecomb and I’m hoping he can bounce back from his Goodwood run stepping down to six furlongs. He’s been in good form since that run and he might just surprise a few at a big price.

Racingbreaks Ryder runs in the Convivial (4.45pm). He’s a nicely bred colt by Fast Company and we’re hopeful he’ll be competitive, although this is one of the hardest maidens of the season to win with lots of likely types on paper entered up.

York, Saturday

Sonny Liston steps up to 1m1f in the Strensall Stakes (1.50pm). I was thrilled with his performance at Goodwood last time as it showed he isn’t just a one-hit wonder and I’ve been very pleased with him since. I have no doubts he’s a good horse and I think York will suit.

Inverness runs in the Melrose handicap (2.25pm). He was another to run a great race at Goodwood where he was perhaps a shade unlucky as he met trouble in-running. We’re back up to 1m6f here which should hold no fears and I’m hopeful he’ll put in another solid showing.

We’re turning  Pogo  out quickly in the City Of York (3.00pm).

He didn’t do much wrong at Newbury last weekend and perhaps the draw slightly inconvenienced him as the placed horses were all drawn higher. He’s won at York before and is in the form of his life, so I don’t see any reason why he can’t run another big race.
