Charlie Hills’ Blog: Iberian in smashing form

| BY News Team

It was great to get a couple of winners last Saturday at Ascot and Thirsk. Lady Alara was really brave from the front and I was delighted with her. Vaynor got the job done well at Thirsk – we knew he had the stamina for longer trips and he made full use of that.

Saturday, Doncaster

Iberian takes his chance in the Champagne Stakes (1.50pm). I was pretty happy with the run at Goodwood as the draw didn’t help him and he struggled to get the hang of things at the track. He’s still a very inexperienced horse and just showed a bit of greenness but I was really taken with the way he made up ground in the straight.

He’s been in super form since and his work at home has been really impressive, so we’re really looking forward to running him.

We’re hoping to run Pogo in the Park Stakes (3.00pm) but we’ll keep an eye on the ground as he wouldn’t want it too soft. He hasn’t quite been in the same form this season as last, but he’s in good form at home and will run a nice race if the ground is suitable.

Sunday, Doncaster

If the ground is on the good side then Equilateral will take his chance in the Scarborough Stakes (4.10pm). He’s always good as gold at home and has been exactly that since his win at York. It was great to see him get his head back in front as he’s a real yard favourite.
