Cheltenham Gold Cup Betting Preview – Cheltenham Day 4 Tips (2025)

The Cheltenham Gold Cup is the feature race on Day 4 of the 2025 Cheltenham Festival and 9 runners have been declared for one of the biggest horse racing betting heats of the season.
We’ve known the early entries for the Cheltenham Gold Cup for some time now but decisions have been made and all eyes will be on Prestbury Park on Friday afternoon.
Here, we look at some of the leading players in the Cheltenham odds for this year’s race, with a Gold Cup selection ahead of the 2025 renewal.
All eyes are on GALOPIN DES CHAMPS as he bids to cement his status as the greatest chaser ever to be trained by Willie Mullins. A third Cheltenham Gold Cup crown beckons and he is a warm order to give connections another memorable day at Prestbury Park.
He is a supreme talent and we are witnessing an all-time great. The vast majority of fans in attendance on Friday will be backing the 11-time Grade 1 winner to win on the biggest stage of all once again. We’re running out of superlatives for him, it’s time to just admire his brilliance.
Banbridge has been declared to take his opportunity in the race and he could be the one to give the selection most to do. He won the King George VI Chase with a superb performance on Boxing Day and connections are right to have a crack at the Gold Cup.
Joseph O’Brien has had a fantastic campaign and a victory in jumps racing’s blue riband race would certainly be well deserved. He runs a small National Hunt operation these days but he does incredibly well with a smaller team.
The Henry de Bromhead yard has been in and out of form for much of the year but there is a quiet confidence behind Monty’s Star ahead of his Gold Cup bid. He has been trained with one day in mind and I’m expecting him to be in peak condition for Friday.
He ran a massive race behind Fact To File in last year’s Brown Advisory Novices Chase before finishing second to Spillane’s Tower at Punchestown and that form looks strong but he’ll need to improve again to get close to Galopin Des Champs.
Royale Pagaille is a Grade 1 horse at Haydock Park but he just isn’t quite up to that level around Cheltenham. If he could run to the rating that he’s recorded in his previous two Betfair Chase victories then he’d have a great chance of finishing in the places.
There is a worry over the form of the Venetia Williams yard right now, with one winner from her last 25 runners at the time of writing. With that in mind, Royale Pagaille isn’t a betting proposition – even as an each way selection.
Inothewayurthinkin was supplemented for this and he’s probably the one you want to back to finish in the places. He’ll need the favourite to underperform if he is to prevail but he caught the eye in the Irish Gold Cup, doing his best work late and the 3m2f trip will be right up his street.
Gavin Cromwell’s runners have been running well so far this week and I’m hoping that he can run a big race before heading to Aintree for the Grand National. I think he’s got a cracking chance to win that off a BHA mark of 160.
SELECTION: GALOPIN DES CHAMPS (WIN)
