Fred Winter Juvenile Handicap Hurdle Betting Preview – Cheltenham Day 1 Tips (2025)

The Fred Winter Juvenile Handicap Hurdle is the sixth race on Day 1 of the 2025 Cheltenham Festival and 22 runners have been declared for one of the biggest horse racing betting heats of the season.
We’ve known the early entries for the Fred Winter Juvenile Handicap Hurdle for some time now but decisions have been made and all eyes will be on Prestbury Park on Tuesday afternoon.
Here, we look at some of the leading players in the Cheltenham odds for this year’s race, with a Fred Winter Juvenile Handicap Hurdle selection ahead of the 2025 renewal.
One of the trickiest races of the week, Stencil is the current market leader for the Fred Winter and you can see why punters have latched onto him.
He finished second to Triumph Hurdle favourite East India Dock on Trials Day back in January and that form looks very strong. Victory for Stencil on Tuesday afternoon could see East India Dock shorten further at the heading of the Triumph market.
The vibes are strong regarding Total Look and his homework, with the Gavin Cromwell yard reportedly sweet on his chances. He’s been given a BHA mark of 132 but that may turn out to be lenient.
Keith Donoghue is a brilliant jockey and he’s a very astute race rider so I’m expecting him to get the most out of his mount on Tuesday afternoon. He’s a short enough price but he has leading claims.
Beyond Your Dreams was the subject of an antepost gamble but she’s short enough in the betting now. JJ Slevin has been booked to ride and she is likely to be one of his best chances of the week but is she classy enough? Only time will tell…
She certainly looks well in at the weights with Total Look but I think I’d prefer to side with the Cromwell horse. Beyond Your Dreams runs off a mark of 123 and she certainly could be better than that but I wonder if she’s the green and gold one to look out for.
Instead, I’d give Puturhandstogether a huge chance. Not only is he the choice of Mark Walsh but he was given a very tentative ride the last day and I think a mark of 130 is very fair indeed. I’d say he could have scope for significant improvement.
Puturhandstogether is one of three Joseph O’Brien / JP McManus runners declared but it would appear that Out For A Stroll will miss the cut. I’d give this lad a better chance than Beyond Your Dreams, but I can see the angle for both.
However, I’m not siding with either as my official selection for the race. I often try to see if there is a Graded horse masquerading as a handicapper and I think that I’ve found one and the gelding in question just happens to be housed at Closutton.
I heard whispers that Paul Townend would ride SONY BILL in the Boodles following a piece of work last week and that is almost a tip in itself. Townend is often selective when it comes to riding in handicaps so he’s rarely on a no-hoper.
He’s finished around eight lengths adrift of Hello Neighbour, another leading contender for the Triumph Hurdle, on a couple of occasions this term and he is very interesting on handicap debut off a mark of 136.
SELECTION: SONY BILL (E/W)
