Stayers’ Hurdle
For long-distance hurdlers, the Stayers’ Hurdle is the premier event of each season and as its name suggests, it requires horses to be blessed with plenty of stamina.
Competitors in this race won’t have the same speed as those running in the two-mile Champion Hurdle, but have much more staying power. A very different contest, but certainly no less impressive.

In recent years, six and seven-year-olds have dominated this race. Only three nine-year-old runners have won the race in the last 33 renewals, suggesting that youth is an advantage here. That said, winner of the 2019 renewal Paisley Park, despite his age of 11, has been in flying form this season and is certainly in with a chance of a second Stayers’ Hurdle win.
