Epsom Derby: Runner-By-Runner Guide & Predictions (2025)

Epsom Derby predictions and betting tips

Delacroix and Ruling Court head the runners as a field of 19 head to post in Saturday’s Derby at Epsom.

Ryan Moore will ride Delacroix, one of three contenders for Irish trainer Aidan O’Brien, who is seeking an 11th win in the Classic.

Ruling Court, for Godolphin trainer Charlie Appleby, will bid to become the first 2000 Guineas victor to win the Derby since Camelot achieved the feat in 2012.

Epsom Derby Runner-By-Runner Guide:

Al Wasl Storm (Owen Burrows)

Tenacious all the way scorer in a 1m4f EBF Maiden Stakes at Chester last time out. Not the silliest 100/1 shot in our horse racing odds you could ever back.

Damysus (John & Thady Gosden)

Kept on well to finish second to Pride Of Arras in the Dante at York. This Frankel-colt should relish the step up in trip.

Delacroix (Aidan O’Brien)

This Dubawi-colt comes into the Derby after landing both the Ballysax and the Leopardstown Derby Trial Stakes this season. Those races are decent barometers for this event.

Green Storm (Charlie Johnston)

Finished a 10½ length fourth in the Feilden Stakes. That form is simply not good enough.

Lambourn (Aidan O’Brien)

Second in the Ballysax, then took the Chester Vase with a commanding performance. There’s probably more to come from him.

Lazy Griff (Charlie Johnston)

Ran well to finish 1½ lengths second to Lambourn in the Chester Vase, but it’s hard to see how he would reverse that result.

Midak (F-H Graffard)

The Exors Of The Late H H Aga Khan continue to enjoy Group successes across Europe and this French raider comes over to the UK unbeaten.

New Ground (H-F Devin)

Beaten just a length in his last two starts against decent opposition, and this extra distance may just be the key for this Juddmonte-colt.

Nightime Dancer (Richard Hannon)

Third in the Lingfield Derby Trial, but that form simply doesn’t stack up against most of these.

Nightwalker (John & Thady Gosden)

Ran disappointingly in the Dante last time out and will need a quick change in fortunes to be competitive.

Pride Of Arras (Ralph Beckett)

Visually impressive in the Dante at York, but was the manner of that victory enough to warrant him being made one of the market principles in the betting for this Classic? Time will tell.

Rogue Impact (James Owen)

Looked out of his depth in the Lingfield Derby Trial and your own money will actually go rogue if you side with this horse today.

Ruling Court (Charles Appleby)

In what could be a blue letter “couple of” days across the Oaks and Derby for Godolphin, 2000 Guineas hero Ruling Court looks sure to go close once more.

Sea Scout (Simon & Ed Crisford)

Five lengths adrift of Prince Of Arras in the Dante and has a mountain to climb.

Stanhope Gardens (Ralph Beckett)

Beckett’s runner was a neck second to Delacroix in last season’s Autumn Stakes which is an excellent line of form.

Tennessee Stud (Joseph O’Brien)

Struggled to live with Delacroix in the Leopardstown Derby Trial Stakes and will struggle again in the real thing.

The Lion In Winter (Aidan O’Brien)

Apparently The Lion In Winter has made good progress since York and he would be very dangerous to dismiss.

Tornado Alert (Saeed bin Suroor)

Ran well for a long way in 2,000 Guineas, but is highly likely to get picked off late in the closing stages.

Tuscan Hills (Raphael Freire)

Doesn’t appear to hold enough ammo to be a threat to the principles in this Classic.

The Derby prediction & betting tips: Midak (14/1) & New Ground (50/1, E/W)
