Next Golden Race: The Imperial Cup, 2:25, Sandown, Saturday

A typically competitive edition of this old pre-Festival favourite awaits Golden Race players this week, with 12 of the entrants would-be seekers of the bonus on offer for any horse that can win here and again at the Cheltenham next week.

Eight of the last 10 winners have carried 10st 7lbs or less, which isn’t good news for Sandown lovers Call Me Lord (three from four at the track) or Speredek (two from three), both of who m are above the threshold.

The majority of the Imperial Cup runners do carry less than that weight however, including the highly-progressive likely favourite Monsieur Lecoq and Lanzarote Hurdle second Solomon Grey.

Pick the first six home in order to claim your share of £100k, or the whole lot if you’re the only one who nails it.

Should the main prize go uncollected, there’s also a share of the £10k consolation prize pot to be had if you correctly plump for the first and second.

It’d be rude not to bring your brain to bear on the Golden Race
