2023 Ladies Day Betting Guide
The card on Ladies Day starts with the Mildmay Novices’ Chase at 13:45, where trainer Nicky Henderson has had plenty of success throughout the years. He’s saddled the winner on six occasions, including Might Bite (2017), Terrefort (2018) and Chantry House (2021) in recent renewals.
Then there’s the competitive William Hill Handicap Hurdle (14:20). This 2m4f contest was won by Langer Dan last year and the Harry Skelton-trained horse was victorious at last month’s Cheltenham Festival when landing the Coral Cup. Could he be back to defend his crown?
Straight after that come consecutive Grade 1s with the Top Novices’ Hurdle (14:55) and Marsh Chase (15:30). The latter sees Fakir D’oudairies going for three in a row, while the likes
of Paul Nicholls pair Pic D’Orhy and Hitman, as well as Ryanair Chase winner Envoi Allen could take him on.
The Grand National fences get a sighting during the Topham Chase at 16:05, where Becher Chase 1-2 Ashtown Lad and Gesskille could lock horns once more. Last year’s winning trainer Peter Bowen has a few entered, including the hat-trick seeking Statuario.
The final Grade 1 on Ladies Day gives some of the younger horses a chance to shine in the Sefton Novices’ Hurdle – a race that has been won by At Fishers Cross, Thistlecrack, Champ and Ahoy Senor.
The day wraps up with a handicap hurdle for conditional and amateur jockeys at 17:15. Which up-and-coming rider will take victory and mark themselves as one for the future?
