Grand National Weights Revealed For 2025

The weights for the 2025 Grand National were released on Tuesday afternoon and defending champion I Am Maximus will carry the top weight of 11-12 after he was given an official rating of 167 by the BHA handicapper ahead of April’s big race.
He carried 11-6 to victory last year but has climbed up the weights, with his official rating rising 8lbs since the 2024 renewal. I Am Maximus is one of nine entries in the race for prominent owner JP McManus, who also has the likes of Inothewayurthinkin, Perceval Legallois and Iroko in the running to line up at Aintree.
William Hill ambassador Gavin Cromwell has a total of eight runners in the race, including the aforementioned Inothewayurthinkin and Perceval Legallois. Limerick Lace was well fancied for the race last year but faded in the closing stages and she has been touted for an Aintree return while Stumptown could also head to the Grand National after his intended run at the Cheltenham Festival.
At the time of writing, I Am Maximus is one of the leading contenders in horse racing odds for the Aintree showpiece and he is likely to be well supported come the day. All roads lead to the Grand National for him, with no talk of heading to Cheltenham in the run up to April.
Grand National Day is always eagerly anticipated by the wider general public and this year’s race will take place on Saturday 5th April with a start time of 4pm. You can find a full list of the published Grand National weights below…

Grand National Reaction
Champion Trainer Willie Mullins has admitted it will be “tough” for I Am Maximus to repeat his 2024 Aintree heroics as he attempts to win this year’s Randox Grand National with 6lb more on his back than 12 months ago.
Asked about his other nine entries, Mullins seemed most buoyed by the prospects of Nick Rockett: “I thought he was very good winning the Thyestes and that’s always a very good pointer towards the National, so hopefully he’ll take up the engagement.”
He also gave a favourable nod to Capodanno: “Capodanno was running a good race last year. The handicapper’s given him a chance and he jumps those fences no problem so I’m happy enough.”
Irish trainer and William Hill ambassador Gavin Cromwell, has some significant runners entered this year. His eight entries in 2025 include Inothewayurthinkin, who currently shares 10-1 joint-favouritism with last year’s winner I Am Maximus.
Cromwell is also strong on the chances of “Percy”, saying: “Perceval Legallois (10st 12lb) I would say is a likely runner at this stage and I think we’ll be missing Cheltenham with him. He won the Paddy Power Handicap Chase at Leopardstown over Christmas and then a Listed handicap hurdle at the Dublin Racing Festival so is in really good form.
Joint-trainers Josh Guerriero and Oliver Greenall admit they are still pinching themselves as they prepare to send out their first ever Grand National runner.
The JP McManus-owned Iroko is 27th in the list after being rated 152 and given a weight of 10st 11lb by the handicapper.
Suggested bets: Iroko (14/1) E/W & Perceval Legallois (25/1) E/W.
