Grand National 2023 Results

It’s the most eagerly anticipated horse-race of the year for many racing fans, and the results of every year’s Grand National are analysed and deliberated over for years after the race has been run. This year’s winner, Lucinda Russell’s Corach Rambler, brought home a magical result by providing Russell with her second Grand National success. She is now the only female trainer to have trained more than one winner of the race this century. Jenny Pitman trained two winners of the Grand National in the 20th century; Corbiere in 1983 and Royal Athlete in 1995.

Grand National 2022 Results

Totally unexpected with an SP of 50/1, outsider Noble Yeats won the 2022 Grand National in brilliant style under his owner-rider, Sam Waley-Cohen, for whom it was his last ever ride in a race under rules. The crowd and the connections were ecstatic with this fantastical victory.

This particular renewal of the Grand National will go down in history as the one which saw the first ever female jockey ride a winner in the famous race. Rachael Blackmore had arguably one of her most memorable wins riding Minella Times to a brilliant victory to the delight of all spectators.

Grand National 2019 Results

The story made in the 2019 Grand National was Tiger Roll, trained by Gordon Elliott becoming the first horse to win more than one Grand National since Red Rum in 1974. The popular little horse was as well received as ever by his adoring fans, and remains the most recent horse to have won more than one Grand National.

Understanding the Grand National results

Usually, the results of the Grand National are clear. As it is such a long race, a photo finish is rarely required to ascertain the winner, who is normally lengths clear of the runner-up.

How the Grand National results are determined

In a normal case, the first horse to cross the finish line with a rider aboard is the winner. The one following is the runner-up, the next third, and the trend continues.

Horses who did not complete the race due to falling, being pulled-up or unseating their rider do not count as having finished the race.

Factors that affect Grand National results

The only instances which may lead to a change of result are disqualification of a horse due to unacceptable riding from the jockey or other misdemeanours such as a problematic ‘weighing-in’. What happens in these situations is a jockey (with all his or her kit) weighs more or less at the end of the race than they did at the start. This means that the horse they were riding in the race was not carrying the correct allotted weight.

These occasions are discussed by the stewards in a Stewards Enquiry and the result resolved accordingly.
